Texas Wesleyan University was established by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in 1890. A panel under the bearing of Bishop Joseph S. Key investigated areas for a grounds and chose a site east of Fort Worth given by region pioneers, A.S. Corridor, W.D. Corridor, and George Tandy. Initially called Polytechnic College, the school held its first classes in September 1891 with a small bunch of employees and 111 students.
Texas Wesleyan was established in 1890. It became Texas Women's College in 1914 but in 1935 it became a co-ed college named Texas Wesleyan College. Since then, it has been a liberal arts college.
