As per the official announcement, the CBSE class 12 practical exam 2024 will be conducted in pen and paper mode and will begin on Jan 1, 2024, and conclude on Feb 15, 2024.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released class 12 practical exam dates for regular and winter-bound schools. Regular schools will conduct the CBSE class 12 practical exams, projects, and internal assessment exams from Jan 1, 2024 to Feb 15, 2024.
For winter-bound schools, the CBSE class 12 practical exams commenced on Nov 14, 2023 and concluded on Dec 14, 2023.

CBSE Class 12 Practical Exam - Important Guidelines
CBSE also announced guidelines for how practical exams, projects, and internal assessments should be conducted for winter-bound schools. Candidates can refer to the following instructions released by the board.
A) Schools are responsible for creating the final list of applicants and ensuring that students from the schools can only take the CBSE class 12 practical exam, project, or internal assessment if their name has been submitted to the board in the online LOC.
B) The board has instructed CBSE schools to contact the regional office to schedule appointments for external examiners and observers, ensure that exams are finished on time, and send answer books and award lists to regional offices.

| Dates for uploading the marks | From the date when the practical examinations began, the marks for each practical examination, project, and internal assessment must be uploaded at the same time. |
| The board shall not consider extending the deadlines. | |
| Ensuring error-free uploading | While uploading the marks, the school, the internal examiner and the external examiner shall ensure that the correct marks are uploaded as no correction in the marks will be allowed once marks are uploaded. |
| Unfair means | Students will be considered to have used or attempted to use unfair means if they are caught talking to or trying to talk to examiners with the intent of influencing them in any way. |
| Regular students at winter-bound schools | For regular students sponsored through L.O.C. of class 12, based on the eligibility/bonafide status of the student(s), Practical Examinations/Project/Internal Assessments shall be conducted in the school. |
| Ensuring the presence of external examiners | Following the board's requirement for the appointment of an external examiner, the school shall ensure the presence/availability of external examiners and observers on all days of the conduct of practical examinations/project assessments. |
| Inspection by the external examiner | External examiners must visit the school's lab at least one day before the day of the practical test or assessment to confirm that the necessary apparatus, equipment, chemicals, and other materials are available and make other arrangements. |

CBSE Class 12 Theory Exam 2024 Marking Scheme
There will be only one term or one board examination this academic year (as was the norm earlier). The final examination will cover the syllabus (as per the CBSE Curriculum 2024). The CBSE class 12 exam pattern, however, has changed.
For CBSE class 12 board exams 2024, question papers would comprise -
- 20% MCQs or objective questions.
- 30% would be competency-based questions.
- The remaining 50% would constitute the subjective or short/long answer questions.

CBSE Class 12 Passing Criteria
The passing criteria for CBSE class 12 are the same as before. A student has to score 33% marks separately in theory and practical papers. Check CBSE passing marks here.
- The aggregate marks scored also have to be 33% of the total.
- If a student obtains 33% marks in aggregate but does not score 33% in one of the subjects, they will have to sit for the compartment exam.
- The total consists of marks obtained in both theory and practical papers.
- Grace marks are awarded on a scale of two to five.
