The ICSE Class 10 English Reduced Syllabus contains three units - Drama, Poetry and Prose. The drama syllabus has Acts 3, 4 and 5 of "The Merchant of Venice." Poems like Daffodils, I know why the Caged Bird Sings, The Patriot have been included in the syllabus.

The new English course syllabus for the academic year 2024-2025 has been made public by the board.  Several topics from various chapters have been deleted. The ICSE Class 10 English reduced syllabus is provided below:

• The Merchant of Venice (Shakespeare’s unabridged play by A.W. Verity - Acts 3, 4 & 5  
• Treasure Trove - A collection of ICSE Poems and Short Stories (Evergreen Publications)

Poetry

• Daffodils – William Wordsworth
• I know why the Caged Bird Sings – Maya Angelou
• The Patriot – Robert Browning
• Abu Ben Adhem – Leigh Hunt
• Nine Gold Medals – David Roth

Prose (Short Stories)

• An Angel in Disguise– T.S. Arthur
• The Little Match Girl – Hans Christian Andersen

Given below is the course structure of ICSE Class 10 English reduced syllabus 2024-25:

• There will be two papers -
  
  • Paper 1 - English Language
  • Paper 2 - English Literature
• Both the papers will be of two hours duration each.
  
  • Paper 1: English Language (80 Marks) and Internal Assessment (20 Marks)
  • Paper 2: English Literature (80 Marks) and Internal Assessment (20 Marks)
