Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab has announced that an academic chair and a scholarship would be set up but the government, in the name of Maharaja Agrasen for Punjabi University.
This chair and scholarship are to be set up at the Punjabi University situated in Patiala. Maharaja Agrasen worked for the benefit of underprivileged sections of the society and promoted trade in North India. This chair and scholarship shall provide an opportunity for scholars and researchers to gain knowledge about the Maharaja and his work.

MLA of Sangrur, Vijay Inder Singla had put forward the demand for the scholarship and chair on the 29th of November. The Chief Minister immediately approved the demand and issued orders for its implementation. The Department of Higher Education was directed by the Chief Minister to set up the Agrasan Chair at Punjabi University, Patiala at the earliest. The personal intervention of the Chief Minister in this matter was sought by Singla.
Many institutions in the country were named after Maharaja Agrasen. The MLA informed the Chief Minister about this. A fund of Rs 7 crore was requested for the smooth functioning of this chair.
