Polytechnic Courses Eligibility
The minimum required qualification to get admission into a diploma course is to pass the SSLC/10th standard with a minimum of 35% in science and maths. The state board of technical education conducts entrance test for admissions to diploma programs in many states of India. After completing the diploma course the candidate can appear for LET (Lateral Entry Test) for admission in Btech/B.E programs. 12th passed students are also eligible for these courses, there is a list of other courses that students can take after their 12th.

Polytechnic Course Duration
Generally, the polytechnic course duration for the courses mentioned above is for 3 years. This course is generally taken after completing class 10th rather than choosing to do normal HSLC. HSLC is two years but diploma degree is 3 years. After doing a polytechnic course one can apply for B.E/BTech courses which people do normally after 12th and is 4 years long. But if you take admission in any of the engineering courses after diploma then you directly get admission into 2nd year of the course.
Admission Process For Polytechnic Courses
The admission process for all Polytechnic courses is merit-based depending on ranks and the marks obtained in class 10th. Since the admission process was started by the board on January 1, 2020. All the prospective admission seekers are informed that while applying the form for the polytechnic course, they must choose the preferred branch, and fill the correct information by understanding the instruction provided by the admission. They also select candidates via entrance examinations such as POLYCET.
Polytechnic Course Fees
Polytechnic course does not cost more like other courses like B.E, Btech, B.Pharm, etc. The fees for these courses are very affordable because mostly the polytechnic colleges are run by the state government itself. Therefore it becomes easy for the people belonging to the low-income group to afford the fees. They are usually around 10,000-12,000 per year. Although this may vary from college to college as government colleges have lower fees rate compared to other private institutes.
Lateral Entry in Polytechnic Courses
Students who have completed their 3 years Diploma program after class 10th can skip the first year and join second-year B.E/B.Tech programs with the help of exams or counseling conducted by state technical admission authorities or private universities.
Though diploma engineering courses may help in early exposure to the job market yet, you may miss out on a few opportunities due to a lack of a degree. In this case, you can opt for lateral entry in B.Tech and the course duration is of 6 semesters (3 Years).

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering: The academic program is 3 years long. This course deals with mechanical engineering. The course covers topics such as – working of the machine, the theory of machine, thermodynamics, physics, engineering graphics, etc. After completing this course, you may use lateral entry and pursue BE Mechanical Engineering or B.Tech Mechanical Engineering.
Diploma in Electrical Engineering: This academic program is 3 years long. It primarily deals with aspects such as – generation and transmission of electricity, electric circuits, transformers, etc. Electrical engineers may pursue a Master’s Degree in fields such as CS, EC, Large Scale Integrated Circuits, etc. After completing this course, you may use lateral entry and pursue B.E. or B.Tech Electrical Engineering/ B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
