How is the JEE Online Examination Conducted?

The JEE exam is conducted online with the help of the internet to make it secure. NTA, the erstwhile National Testing Agency, conducts the exam in a CBT mode. The questions appear on the screen, and the candidates are supposed to select the correct answer according to them. 

Furthermore, the JEE Mains exam is conducted for two papers: Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech courses and Paper 2 for B.Arch and B.Planning courses. Candidates who qualify for the JEE Mains can apply for JEE Advanced. 

Besides, JEE Advanced is pursued by candidates who want admissions to IITs, IIITs, government-aided colleges and top B-schools. 

How is the JEE Exam Conducted?

Before diving into detailed analysis, candidates must know that JEE is a national-level examination. It is being conducted for two sessions in 2022. The competitive level is quite high for this exam, and lakhs of candidates appear for this exam each year.

What is Online Examination?

Online examination is conducted over the internet in CBT (Computer Based Test) mode. JEE Main and JEE Advance both are held in online mode. Candidates appearing for the exam are allotted systems on which they are required to answer questions.

How is the JEE Online Examination Conducted?

Before applying for the JEE exam, candidates must know a few points. The JEE exam will be conducted in CBT (Computer Based Test). Further, to attempt the exam, candidates are allotted with systems. Through the computers, candidates can answer the questions. 

In addition, there will be a set of instructions; candidates need to read it thoroughly and then proceed to click on the disclaimer. Finally, candidates will receive the set of questions once the proceedings are done. 

There will be an answer status for each question; the marking will go as follows:

• Red - You have not answered the question.
• Grey - You have not visited the question yet
• Green - You have answered the question.
• Purple - You have not answered the question but have marked it for review
• Purple with a green circle - You have answered the question but marked it for review.

JEE Exam Necessary Documents

Certain items are to be carried inside the examination hall. Candidates must follow the protocol mentioned above before appearing for the exam.

• Candidates are advised to fill up the admit card properly only after reading the required instructions.
• Next, the candidate must reach the examination hall in advance.
• Besides, candidates with physical disabilities getting their scribe should carry all necessary records noted by NTA.
• Separately candidates are advised to carry their hand sanitiser.
• Candidates are asked to remove their masks and use the mask provided at the centre. 
• Candidates must not carry any banned items to the examination hall.

JEE Exam Barred Items

There is a list of strictly prohibited items inside the JEE examination hall. The list of items are: 

• Electronic devices like a calculator, electronic watch/ smartwatch, and mobile phones are barred from appearing on the exam. 
• Stationery such as paper, geometry boxes, pencil boxes, are strictly restricted. There is an exception for students appearing for B.Arch.
• Personal belongings like purses, handbags, earphones, microphones are not allowed inside the examination hall.
• Cameras, tape recorders, metallic items like metal bands, kara are banned inside the examination hall.
• Any snackable items like tea, coffee, chips, etc., are not allowed. There is an exception for diabetes candidates.  

JEE Exam Important Instructions

Some of the important instructions while appearing for JEE exam conducted by NTA are as follows: 

• Questions can be selected directly by clicking on the question number. In addition, the question number will be available on the question paper palette itself. 
• Afterwards, when the candidates have selected the answer, they can click on the "Save and Next" button to proceed. 
• Besides, the choice to mark for review and proceed to the next question facility is available. Moreover, the option to answer the questions and mark them for reviewing later is also available. 
• Nevertheless, viewing the entire question paper in the first go is also available. Candidates can do so by using the 'Question Paper' button on the web page.
