The Kerala Board of Public Examinations (KBPE) administers the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate ) examinations, in March every year in Kerala. These exams are crucial for Kerala students as it is a pathway to higher secondary education.

The Kerala Board of Public Examinations mandates that students appearing for the Kerala SSLC Exam must secure 33% marks in each subject to pass successfully. The total score for the Kerala SSLC exam is 640 marks. Comprising 490 marks from written board exams, 130 marks from internal evaluation and 20 marks, from an IT test. A student's final grade is determined by their score out of these 640 marks.  

Kerala SSLC uses a 9-point grading system, with A+ representing the highest mark and E representing the lowest. These grades are assigned to evaluate candidates based on their performance in the Kerala SSLC examination.

Candidates should secure at least 192 marks out of 640 in the Kerala SSLC exam. The Kerala SSLC subject-wise passing marks is tabulated below:

Kerala SSLC Grading System

Kerala Board of Public Examinations (KBPE) follows a 9 point grading system in Kerala SSLC Examinations. Kerala SSLC will not mention ranks but will mention grades for each subject. 

In the Kerala SSLC Grading System, A+ is the highest grade with 9 points and E is the lowest grade with 1 point. Candidates are assigned a grade based on the marks scored by them in the Kerala SSLC examination. There is no negative marking in Kerala SSLC  Grading System. Tips To Score Above Kerala SSLC Passing Marks

Candidates can check some of the tips mentioned below to score above Kerala SSLC  Passing Marks:

  • Understanding the curriculum of each subject is very important. Before the start of the academic year you should be acquainted with each subject exam structure. Going through the exam pattern will help you understand the format of the question paper, including the number of questions, chapters asked and marks allocated. 
  • In Maths, try to focus, memorize and understand the key formulas of Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics. By remembering the formulas you will be able to complete the exam within the time limit.
  • In Science, focus on diagrams and associated terminologies, functions such as the ray diagrams from the light chapters. Drawing and labeling diagrams accurately can score you easy marks. Pay special attention to chapters such as carbon and its compounds, life process and related chapters. Take as many brief notes and practice formulae, compound names, equations, numericals, theorems, and terminology as possible.
  • English is a subject that is frequently overlooked until the final moment. However, try to concentrate on grammatical rules, tenses, and voice, and detect and rectify any mistakes you make. Try to write as much as possible so that you can finish the lengthier responses within the time limit while still focusing on grammar.
  • In Social Science, Practice writing lengthy answers on India Independence, Culture and Nationalism. As these are very broad topics it is important for you to articulate your thoughts clearly before writing so that you can finish the paper on time. Try to remember important events, dates, figures.
  • Try to practice writing nicely in all disciplines and conveying your views correctly on paper. Whenever possible, utilize bullet points, headers, tables, and diagrams to help clarify your answers.
