Entrance Exams & Admissions :
Assam Medical College is a reputed college located in Dibrugarh, Assam. It is the oldest medical college in northeastern India and provides quality education to undergraduate as well as postgraduate students. It is a government college. To be eligible to get admission to this college, one must sit for NEET. Cutoffs are usually high and were 450 marks this year for general candidates through state quota. Once you attend the counselling and get a seat in the college, admission procedure gets completed in a day. The fees are very minimal and vary from Rs. 9000-12000 per semester depending on whether one takes hostel facility or not.
Placements & Internships :
Once the internship is completed during which you get a stipend of 21000 rs, the students who had opted for state quota at the time of admission have to do a compulsory rural posting during which you get 35000-40000 RS per month. One can skip the same by paying 7 lakh rupees as compensation to the government. The alumni of the college are spread worldwide even though most of the candidates belonging to the state prefer to do their job around the state.
Fees & Scholarships :
Course fee- RS 9000 Scholarship- One may avail Ishan Uday Scholarship, NEC scholarship, minority scholarship among others. No of students- More than half of the college avails of one scholarship or the other. Loans are not required. If still, one prefers to avail of one, loans from SBI come at low interest.
Academics & Faculty :
Daily routine- Classes 8 am- 4 pm. Exams are held every 6 months and one professional mbbs exam at the end of every year except 2nd mbbs exam which is of 1.5 years. The teachers are excellent, experienced, efficient and cooperative. My 4 years at the college have been excellent and I'd highly recommend this to those who can clear the cutoff.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
The college has 7 hostels for boys and 5 for girl undergraduate students. The fee is very minimal and around Rs 600 per month. One may not find many PGs around the college and the prices are a bit higher than in the hostel. So hostel must be preferred. Food in college isn't praiseworthy. The canteen isn't very hygienic even though it isn't costly. The college has great infrastructure and the classrooms, labs, wards, libraries are modern and efficient with WiFi connection in all the hostels.
Clubs & Associations :
They form many student clubs. College fest is conducted every year. Social life is good.
