Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh is one of the oldest medical institutes in the North East region of India. Retire British brigadier, John Berry White who later became a civil surgeon donated his lifetime earning of Rs. 50,000 (Now worth more than 50 million Rupees) and established the Berry White Medical School in 1900 AD. It was one of the earliest institutions to offer Allopathic Medical Education in Assam. Under the chairmanship of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the Assam Branch of Licentiate Medical Practitioners upgraded the institution to establish the Assam Medical College after independence in the year 1947.
AMCH offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses with various specialising departments in the college. Getting admission to these courses requires a relevant score for the NEET UG examination conducted by the CBSE or the NEET PG examination conducted by the NBE. The college has a strong alumni base and offers most of the crucial infrastructure and scholarship programs to interested students.

The college was inaugurated formally by the First Chief Minister of Assam, Late Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi. The admission of the first batch of students was completed in September 1947 with only 6 seats. For admission into Assam Medical College, candidates must get through the State Entrance Test. AMCH is spread across 450 acres of land including all the infrastructural facilities a medical college would require. The classrooms are well-equipped with beautiful and air-conditioned campus. The hospital wing of the college was officially inaugurated in the year 1948.
The students who are applying for MBBS must appear for NEET-UG. The UG candidates must attend NEET UG conducted by NTA (National Testing Academy) and obtain a valid scorecard.
