NEET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a new rule for NEET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria scores. If all existing methods fail to resolve the tie, a random selection process will be used to determine the ranks, overseen by an independent expert committee to ensure fairness. NEET UG 2025 exam is scheduled for May 4, 2025, and will cover admissions to MBBS, BDS, BVSc, AH, AYUSH, and BSc Nursing courses.
The registration process started on Feb 7, 2025, and will remain open until Mar 7, 2025. Stay updated with NTA notifications for any further changes.
NEET Tie Breaking Criteria 2025 Released
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a new rule for resolving ties in NEET UG 2025 scores. If the existing tie-breaking methods are not sufficient, an independent expert committee will step in and resolve the tie through a random selection process.
How New NEET Tie Breaking Criteria 2025 Works?
If two or more candidates get the same marks in NEET UG 2025, the following steps will be applied in order to break the tie:
- Higher Marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology): Preference will be given to the candidate with higher Biology marks.
- Higher Marks in Chemistry: If the tie remains, the candidate with higher Chemistry marks will rank higher.
- Higher Marks in Physics: If still unresolved, the candidate with higher Physics marks will be preferred.
- Lower Proportion of Incorrect Answers: The candidate with fewer incorrect answers compared to correct answers in all subjects will get a better rank.
- Fewer Incorrect Answers in Biology: If necessary, preference will be given to the candidate with fewer incorrect answers in Biology.
- Fewer Incorrect Answers in Chemistry: If the tie persists, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers in Chemistry will rank higher.
- Fewer Incorrect Answers in Physics: If required, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers in Physics will be given preference.
- Random Selection Process: If all criteria fail, an independent expert committee will guide the resolution through a random process.

Other Important NEET UG 2025 Changes
- Increased Choice for Exam Centres:
- Candidates can now select up to three cities for their exam centres instead of two.
- The cities must be chosen based on the candidate’s permanent or present address for better accessibility.
- The question paper will have 180 compulsory questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
- Candidates will have 3 hours (180 minutes) to complete the exam.
- Optional questions have been removed, returning to a streamlined exam format.
- Exam centres will open three hours before the exam, instead of the previous two hours.
- The exam will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with entry starting from 11:00 AM.
- Candidates must upload a scanned image of a recent passport-size photograph taken after January 1, 2025, during the application process.
