Silchar Medical College and Hospital was established in 1968 and is a government-run institution located in Silchar, southern Assam. It is one of the oldest medical colleges in Northeast India and serves as the only referral hospital in the southern part of Assam, also known as the Barak Valley. Since its inception, the hospital has been providing healthcare services to not only southern Assam but also neighboring states such as Mizoram, North Tripura, West Manipur, and South Meghalaya. The expansive three-story hospital building houses various departments, including Casualty, multiple O.P.D.s, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Medicine, Radiology, E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Cardiology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Clinical Pathology, and Blood Bank, along with wards, operation theatres, X-ray, and laboratory facilities. Another separate three-story block is dedicated to the Pathology and Microbiology departments. The Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases departments, along with isolation wards, are situated in separate buildings slightly away from the main hospital. The Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized the MBBS degree in 1976, and in 1985, postgraduate courses were introduced in five clinical specialties: General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, and Otorhinolaryngology

• Method of Selection: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under graduate, NEET-UG.
• Degree Awarded: M.B.B.S.
• Duration of the Course: Five and a half years, which include one year internship.
• Quota: 85% state and 15% all India

PostGraduation:

• Method of Selection: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Post Graduate, NEET-PG.
• Duration of Post Graduate course: Degree 3 years; Diploma 2 years.
• For Postgraduate (Degree) studies: Thesis is compulsory.
