Jamshedpur Womens College was established in 1953 by Mrs. Perin C. Mehta. JSR Women's College, [JWC] Jamshedpur is an autonomous institute affiliated to Kolhan University. It is a constituent college of the same. The college promotes all round sustainable and ethically accepted growth of students and teachers as well in harmony with national economic policies and educational objectives. The college campus is spread over an area of 6 acres comprising five blocks of buildings housing the faculties of education, Science, Arts and Commerce, an indoor stadium, and a library.
Committed to the cause of women’s education, and working steadily towards better quality education, the institute has won several laurels. It was conferred with the status of a Center with Potential for Excellence(CPE) by the University Grants Commission and awarded grade “A” by NAAC. Jamshedpur Women’s College [JWC] Jamshedpur offers a host of undergraduate, postgraduate courses, as well as research-based and professional courses. The college is very active in other activities through the NSS, NCC the Eco club, the Rotaract club and several clubs run by various departments. The college makes its students fully equipped to face the challenges of globalization in all sectors ranging from I.T. to culture.
Vocational courses offered by the college are with special focus on increasing the employability of students. These courses are job oriented. They also teach self employment techniques. At the undergraduate level, candidates can pursue the Honours programme in any one of the following courses- B.A, B.Com, B.Sc. Each course is for a duration of 3 years, conducted through 6 semesters. For the B.A Hons. programme, there are a total of 15 subjects to choose from. While one becomes the specialization subject, another two have to be chosen from the lost, as subsidiary subjects. For the B.Com Hons. programme, the only major subject of specialization offered, is Accountancy. There are other optional subjects from which students can pick 2 as subsidiaries. In the case of a B.Sc degree, there are two combinations of three subjects each that the students can opt. They must choose one out of their selected combination to be the specialization subject, and the other two will be taught as subsidiary subjects.

Eligibility: For admission to the UG courses, candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination, or equivalent, from any recognized Board/University.
At the postgraduate level of study, courses are offered to candidates in the following three streams- Arts & Humanities, Commerce and Science. Depending on the stream of choice, students will be conferred the MA/M.Com/M.Sc degrees respectively, at the end of the 2-year (through 4 semesters) PG programme. At the research level, the college offers the 1-year M.Phil course in Gandhian studies through its Gandhian studies Research Center. The course will comprise 2 semesters of 6-month duration each. The college also has a Ph.D wing offering research opportunities in various subjects.
