GetMyUni's Verdict on MDSU

  • Ajmer , Rajasthan
Compare

“MDSU, Ajmer welcomes students from diverse backgrounds to enrol in its top programs from all over India. However with only work as the focus and a lack of campus activities students miss out on an enhancing college experience.”

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer is built to promote science-based education through its diverse programs, while maintaining balance between academics and culture. The University spearheads an ethnic campus, constructed with Jodhpur marbles as a homage to Rajasthan.

MDSU emphasises the importance of science and technology through each of its courses, but even after years of implementation of its futuristic vision and mission, students find the curriculum outmoded. The University’s faculty also holds a reputation of being overtly stern, with zero efforts to make the pedagogy interactive.

MDSU placements on the other hand are visible only for specific courses, which leaves students feeling discontent. A placement cell is active with past records of securing average packages of INR 8 LPA. Companies which grace the campus for recruitment are Shree cements, Hindustan zinc etc.

Let us shed light on the key features of MDSU like campus, infrastructure, academics, curriculum and more.

Table of Contents

Ecologically Sound Campus

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer formerly known as the University of Ajmer is built on a stunning landscape close to the city of Jodhpur. The eco-friendly campus is decorated with necessary amenities such as laboratories, administrative buildings, auditoriums and hostels. Other prominent facilities provided by the authorities include media section, hospital, post office etc.

Students however feel that the college must install air conditioning and smartboards in the classrooms as these are now basic amenities provided by most top Universities in India. While it may look prim and proper to outsiders, college goers have witnessed an infrastructural collapse, due to lack of maintenance facilities over the years, and yet the college has not taken any efforts to address this issue.

The campus may serve as a peaceful space for some, but the other half has expressed their contrasting thoughts on the campus being monotonous. Moreover, the University lacks infrastructure to support sports and extracurriculars which is a major let down.

Unpleasant Academic Encounters

MDSU boasts of possessing the country’s top minds as their faculty, with years of experience, subject matter expertise and multiple qualifications. Although on paper it may seem that students have the access to the best teaching staff, there is very little truth in it. For a few departments, students are highly distressed with the faculty’s attitude in terms of exam paper markings, seeking help outside of the classroom and more.

Few members of the faculty at MDSU are least interested in attending to student queries. There are incidents when students have been penalised even for asking questions during lectures. Moreover, alums have warned future college-goers to maintain a good rapport with teachers if they wish to pass the exams. This is a highly alarming situation and management must take full responsibility to investigate such cases.

There is also sufficient imbalance when it comes to the teacher to student ratio, which may be one of the causes behind the teacher’s continuous disinterest. There is also a lot of hullabaloo regarding the management of MDSU. Students have raised complaints about how they do not receive any notification for exams or re-exam.

Moreover the marking pattern is strict and average students find it difficult to qualify in the semester exams. In addition, the curriculum is back-dated with very less industry exposure. MDSU graduates struggle to fit into their respective sectors as their degree is merely backed by skills.

There may be a lot of negatives surrounding the academic scenario at the University, however here are some positives to keep in mind.

  • Faculty is very punctual
  • Admissions are based on merit
  • Teachers are experts in their domain
  • Plenty of courses to choose from

Well Diversified University

Ajmer has been home to individuals from diverse backgrounds such as Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians, hence making MDSU highly inclusive by nature. The University is open to applications from all sections of the community.

Additionally, the University reserves 5% of its seats to PwD applicants. Special reservations are extended to Kashimiri migrants, scheduled caste, scheduled tribes, OBC, SBC, and Transgender students. Similarly, students from sports backgrounds receive concessions on the fees from MDSU.

Comfortable Dress Code

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer aims to preserve the culture of India, yet is liberal in many ways and importantly when it comes to their dress code. Students are free to wear casual clothing of their choice, while maintaining modesty.

Candidates must present themselves in a neat and clean manner on campus. In case of any special events, students are informed prior to wearing occasion-wear. Colleges affiliated to MDSU may follow a dress code per their discretion.

Stringent Code of Conduct

The Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer has some unbending rules revolving around on-campus behaviour, examinations, ragging and harassment. According to past records, authorities had taken some harsh disciplinary actions against students disrupting the decorum of the University.

Some of the most important rules in the student handbook are as follows:

  • Damaging University property will be considered as disruption of code of conduct.
  • Use of derogatory language and slang will not be tolerated on campus.
  • The University has a no-nonsense policy when it comes to ragging, therefore seniors and juniors must maintain healthy relations.
  • University ID card is a mandatory document to enter the premises.
  • Activities such as physical harassment, smoking, drinking, teasing and molestation are strictly discouraged and prohibited by the MDSU authorities.

Adequate Hostel and Mess Facilities

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer provides standard accommodation facilities for girls and boys. The total intake capacity of the girls hostel is 60 heads, whereas boys hostel can accommodate up to 39 heads.

The hostel has rooms for both single and double occupancies and a mess which runs on a co-operative basis. The mess is known to provide simple North Indian balanced meals. Moreover, students receive newspapers daily. The main highlight of the hostel is that it has solar powered lighting in common areas and approach roads and even a solar water heater.

MDSU also has a hostel for working women inside the University grounds, which the working female faculty has praised. It is an excellent option for working females looking for affordable residential accommodation.

Safe and Sound Campus Environment

MDSU Ajmer provides a congenial atmosphere for students, with high security measures such as guards on entry and exit points, CCTV cameras in administrative areas and prime locations in the campus. Moreover, authorities ensure that women in the college feel safe, and therefore they actively spread awareness on issues concerning bullying, sexual harassment and molestation.

The hostel too is safeguarded with security personnels and wardens. Students must notify the warden of their whereabouts so that a record is maintained and parents are insured of their ward’s safety. MDSU’s anti-ragging policies are very strict too, and the authorities always encourage their seniors to approach juniors in a friendly manner and act as a mentor to them.

Insufficient Events and Co-curriculars

MDSU only has an indoor sportsplex which makes it difficult for students to engage themselves in a game of football during their off time. However, students can participate in the tournaments which take place in the affiliated colleges round the year.

Primarily, the University organises basketball, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, cricket and handball tournaments at select colleges under the University, which is open for students to participate in.

However, there is a dearth of social and cultural events at the University. Apparently, authorities do not even host a farewell party for graduating candidates which is a big downer. Therefore, the lack of definition when it comes to co-curriculars becomes a big deciding factor for students.

Acceptable Placement Packages

MDSU has an active pavement cell with past records of locking packages up to INR 13 LPA. Students get interview opportunities at both private and government firms. Moreover internships are also provided by the University to eligible students.

Students undergo a pre-placement training organised by the placement cell of the colleges, wherein students participate in mock interviews, industrial visits, seminars and more. Top recruiters brought in by MDSU are:

Shree Cement

Tata Steel

Hindustan zinc

Solar Industries

Yes Bank

Reliance
