Maulana Azad College has formed with an objective to promote Islamic learning and general education to the Muslim population in British India and with the great efforts of contemporary education minister of Bengal, Mr. A. K. Fazlul Haque, on December 9, 1924, the contemporary governor of West Bengal Lord Lytton, laid the foundation of Islamia College. After independence, the college was renamed as Central Calcutta College and  moved beyond all religious barrier and opened for all male students. and it was under the leadership of professor F. J. F. Pereira. The name Maulana Azad College was given to the college in the memory of the great national leaderand the first education minister of the independent India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The college has produced many distinguished and notable nationalists, educationists, politicians,ministers, judges, novelists, IAS, IPS and WBCS officers and Bangabandhu Sk. Mujibur Rahaman is one of the person who leads its alumni list

Maulana Azad College has made great development by itself over the years and holds a prestigious position as one of the prime institution in the state. The alumini from the institution has reached different reputed positions in the society as well as in different parts of the world .It's been 85 glorious years the institution is holding a very glorious position by transforming it's students to excellent levels.

The institution has practiced a policy of self-renewal and at the same institution keeps itself updated according to the current educational scenario also the institution has upgraded itself by introducing three post-graduate programs. Maulana Azad College Kolkata Admissions gives a hand for every student who is expecting a bright career.

• Admissions to the institution will be mainly focused on the merit list.
• Admission process will be carried out through online
• Admission to the institution has been sorted to the Semester wise 3 year B.A/B.Sc./B.Com courses and it is under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) 2019

• The college will deduct 5% marks from the aggregate while calculating the merit score for each previous year of a candidate if the person is upto the last five passing years.

As the institution is providing Bsc, B.com,B.A, M.A & Msc programmes the Maulana Azad College kolkata cut off standards will be basically concentrated on their previous academic results.

The institution provides hostel facilities and as of now only Boys hostel is available and  72 seat girls hostel will be opened for the female scholars. The buliding of Maulana Azad College kolkata Hostel consists of all the reuired facility for a perfect hostel. 

• College has Boys’ Hostel with two buildings, named Baker Government Boys Hostel and Bangabandhu Annex Building
• Allows the accomodation of 600 boarders
• Seats are allotted in the hostel based on the Govt. rules
