Library

The NIO library has been recognised as nio librarythe National Information Centre for Marine Sciences (NICMAS) since mid 90s. While catering to the needs of the users from within the institute, it is also committed to serve the marine information seekers within and outside India.

Most of the operations in the library have been computerised and it uses ISIS based softwares at backend. The electronic resources are open to the institute staff on the Intranet library server.

The library is open from 09:00 - 13:15 and 13:45 - 17:30 hrs on all working days.

The information and facilities made available over here are basically meant for the users outside the institute.

Vessel

The vessel originally built as fishing training vessel (FV Chisio Maru) by the Japanese Government in 1989 was bought by NIO in 2008. Extensive modifications have been done to convert this fishing training vessel into a multi-disciplinary research vessel. The vessel has been registered under Indian Flag with a new name “RV Sindhu Sankalp”. With newly laid accommodation and modern scientific facilities.

IT Centre

NIO's IT Hub consists of a Tier-III compatible level infrastructure to accommodate 12 full size server racks and 2 network racks.  All server racks are powered from two independent 60 KVA uninterruptible power systems (UPS). Spare data cable tray is installed to meet the future communication cable routing. It is also equipped with three precision air conditioning units, each having 8 TR sensible load capacity installed to work in 2+1 redundancy mode to maintain the temperature and humidity in the server room. A building management system integrated with modular environmental safety devices and air conditioning systems installed to monitor the environmental conditions from a centralized location. In addition, its safety and security system consists of addressable fire detection, Novec 1230 gas based fire suppression unit, Very early warning smoke detection apparatus, water leakage detector, rodent repellent system, access control and CCTV monitoring to enhance the automatic monitoring and control.  The entire server room is built with non-combustible or fire retardant quality materials to improve the safety. It is hoped that this infrastructure is supposed to provide service to the institute staff for upcoming ten years.

Laboratories & Estate

NIO has number of highly sophisticated and modern analytical equipments in the areas of Spectroscopy, NMR, X-ray based analysis, Mass spectrometry, Chromatography, Organic elemental analysis etc. to meet the needs of users in various areas of science & technology. A wide range of analytical methods/techniques are available to the users for helping them in their research work. Analytical services are offered to both internal and external users. The external users comprise from universities, colleges, Institutes and Industries.

The Publications and Reprography Section (P&R section) of CSIR-NIO is responsible for organizing the outreach programs at the Institute.
