Advanced Central Computing Facility

ACCF was established in 1996 with the objectives of promoting research by faculty members and encouraging advances studies to in interested students. The laboratory of ACCF has now 15 computer terminals for use of students and faculty members. The laboratory is provided with internet connections. The computing facility will be extended up to 25 terminals.

Other than scheduled class of computer programming and computer aided design include in NERIST academic programmes, the ACCF conducts software testing as an extension programme.

The laboratory has colour laser printer, digital photo printer, scanner, LCD projectors, digital camera and many software like Visual studio, Adobe collection, Corel draw, 3D max, J Bulider, Fortran V90 etc. The NERIST has state of art laboratories that give it an edge over others in the area of teaching, research and consultancy services and put it in the orbit of "Centres of Excellence". It has developed its infrastructure and facilities with utmost care and in a planned manner.

With excellent communication facilities like internet, VSAT, e-mail, fax, electronic library and a highly sophisticated and modern centralized computing facility along with LAN, the institute is poised to impart technical education at the highest level and can boast of one of the excellent centres of learning in this remote location.

Ausitorium

Auditorium is the premier college venue for cultural activities, departmental functions, technical fests and performing arts. Seated up to 500, the auditorium is well furnished with LCD projectors, sound proof audio-video facilities. The auditorium is also used by the schools inside the campus for their annual functions.

Education Technology Cell

The ET cell has been established as a project sponsored by the MHRD, Govt. of India with an objective to increase the effectiveness of teaching-learning process with the help of modern audio-visual equipment. Now, the cell consists of processing laboratory, seminar room, and board room that are well equipped with the state of art audio-visual equipment. These are used for Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and special lectures by faculty members and professionals from institutions and industries.

The cell provides INTERNET facility through BSNL leased line connectivity of 1 Gbps and NKN connectivity to all the Departments, Offices, Hostels and the Schools in the campus.

Guest House

The NERIST guest house brings you the plush, elegant decor and modern facilities with the panoramic view of hills of Arunachal Pradesh. The 14 newly refurbished fully air conditioned rooms (8 nos.) and suites (6 nos.) provide you all the daily facilities with a great experience of living. The professional cooks provide you a range of Indian food from casual, all day eateries to formal, fine dining. The guest house is also having a meeting room cum drawing room which can be used in many purposes.

Hostels

NERIST has 9 hostels, 7 for boys and 2 for girls. One more boys' hostel is going to come up in near future. One hostel each is kept for the PG boys and PG girls. The girls' hostels are safely located inside the residential complex of the faculty members and officers. The hostels are within walking distance from the academic blocks. The boys' hostel complex has two ATMs and couple of mini-shops; and indoor stadium, lawn tennis court, basket ball court and outdoor badminton courts. The girls' hostels have an outdoor badminton court, a basket ball court and a small shop. The hostels have separate mess providing healthy food to the residents at reasonable rate.

Uninterrupted power supply is ensured by dedicating a standby Generator for the hostels. Efforts are afoot to provide filtered water for drinking and cooking.

Medical Health Unit, situated within the Institute Campus with Ambulance facility and 3 doctors, looks after the health care needs of the hostellers as well as others. Besides the Health Unit, the utility services available for the boarders (and also for others) include a Mini-Super Bazaar, SBI Bank, Sub-Post Office, Telephone Exchange, Canteen, two additional ATMs near the Gate and a Gym near the Play Ground close to the boys' hostel complex. A quality Canteen, being planned for the hostels, is going to be professionally managed.

Library

The institute has a library system which consists of a Central library and 11 departmental libraries supporting the teaching, research and extension programme throughout the academic year. The students, faculties, employees are issued library card for issuing books from the central library. The library is having a mammoth collection of books on every engineering subject. Besides that, the library is having a journal section from where one can issue the latest version of most popular and useful journals. The library is also having a very good collection of novels.

Book bank

In addition to the library system, the institute is having a book bank facility for the students from where every student get a set of useful text books related to the academic syllabus of that particular semester. The books bank was funded by North East Council (NEC) initially; later NERIST provided the useful funds for upgrading and enhancing the collection of books.

Health Unit

The NERIST health unit is dedicated to service the students and staffs. The students can get free medical consultancy for any physical problems. NERIST health unit provide 24 hours ambulance facility for the students. The unit is having facilities like X-ray, Ultrasonography, ECG etc including normal routine Examinations. A medical store is also there to serve the purposes.

The unit consists of two Medical Officers, one each of Pharmasist, Nurse, Dresser & Lab-technician; and five Ward attendents to extend all the facilities to the patients.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : NEE II is the entrance for getting into college and the eligibility criteria differs every year because of the number of students participating and how tough the paper was.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : 6 hostel for boys and 1 for girls. 1 pg hotel each for boys and girls, students can also stay outside the campus. Food is cheap and the good quality. Classroom, labs, library labs are in good condition.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : We have to sit for an entrance test named NEE and 20 students from each state is selected. Each branch having 4 seats for each state. I took NEE-I. No particular cutoff just its a first come first serve basis one whose rank is higher can choose his/her branch.

Placements & Internships : Tech Mahindra, OIL, ASAI, etc do their campusing here. About INR 6-10 lakh package with about 40-50% student get placed.

Fees & Scholarships : The course fee is around INR 4000 per sem which is very less compared to other colleges. Scholarships are not available and they are not necessary as course fee is very less.

Academics & Faculty : Class starts at 8 am in the morning to 5 pm in the evening. Exams are held twice, one in the middle of sem and one at the end. Assignments and projects are regularly done. Quality and method of teaching is good,not the best but decent enough. Overall a good college to purse for higher studies.

Clubs & Associations : Here unions are formed headed by SUN(Student Union of NERIST). All states have their respective union. Every state celebrates their festival and sports meet and cultural fest are held annually.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : There are hostel for Girls, Boys and Post Graduate students. The boys' hostel is divided into 8 buildings out if which 3 are 2 storied. At present, there is only 2 Girl's hostel of 2 storied, which is bit of a problem regarding adequate accommodation. The hostel is good enough. In a room maximum of 2 students are appointed.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The Course I graduated on was BSc Forestry (Applied science). It was in the year 2008. There was three types of exams NEE (NERIST Entrance Exam): 1) NEE- I (10 passed students) 2) NEE-II (10+2 students) 3) NEE-III (Diploma holder) I applied for NEE-I as I was 10 passed. I applied online through the website www.neeonline.ac.in. Eligibility: To apply for NEE-I -one must be not more than 23 years of age (26 in case of ST/SC) -Should have passed Matrix. The application fee is INR 750 and INR 400 for ST, SC, PH.

Placements & Internships : For ST stipend cum scholarship are provided. We need to apply for it at the Academic Branch. Placement: The most popular hiring time to time is done by OIL (Oil India Limited). Apart from that, some small companies from IT sector do visit for campusing. The most popular Candidates who got placed at OIL is said to get around INR 90,000 for first couple years. Alumni network: There is good connectivity among the alumni network with the institute. They do visit or get invited on occasions such as silver jubilee.

Fees & Scholarships : Fee structure is very affordable as compared to other major institute. During new admission a student would have to pay about INR 25000 for first 6 months for the next 6 months they would have to pay around INR 12000. Scholarship: There are various types of scholarship that are provided. It is provided to students who obtain good grades (above 8 GPA). Another type of scholarship is also provided to ST, SC who secures good grades. Loans are normally not required as the Fee is affordable.

Academics & Faculty : Normally classes start at 8 am in the morning to 5 pm in evening with the 1-hour lunch break at 1 pm to 2 pm. But depending on your branch the routine is set. Lecturers and professors do give us assignment and project from time to time. Each semester 2 quiz (MCQ) of 10 marks each is conducted. Practical exam is conducted too and then their mid-semester exam and end semester exam. In my Forestry Department, I had excellent experience of learning as the lecturers and Professor were very good at teaching. They provided us with lectures and notes. Overall the experience was amazing. No complaints.

Clubs & Associations : There is a student body known as SUN (Students Union of Nerdist). It helps in dealing with any problems or emergency faced students if any. Apart from that, there are Student unions of respective States and Department. There are many functions and programs conducted in the institute. The main is RACAF, which is a cultural cum recreational program. Another is SHRISTI which is a competitive scene for showcasing talents in various academic or department.
