“The Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur is one of the most prominent universities in the district. However, it needs to work on its administrative staff efficiency and placement record to become the best.”
The Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya Jabalpur was established about 7 decades ago and has been one of the important Universities in the state of Madhya Pradesh ever since. However, taking a closer look at the University, there is a picture of administrative incompetence and subpar placement records come to light.
Several students have commented about the incompetence and carelessness of the administrative staff. The students described the difficulties that they faced because of errors at the end of the administration. One of the effects of their incompetence is the delay in the release of the results, which often stalls the graduating students' career progress.
As for the ranking of the University, it has only been able to score a mediocre 'B' in the NAAC accreditation. The institute needs to work towards ranking better by developing the different aspects that it is deficient in.

The classes are provided by the different departments for the various disciplines. Clearly, the University offers a wide range of courses to its students. The students can pursue any of the methods offered based on their eligibility.
The syllabus focuses on the theory aspect of the courses and not enough emphasis is given on the practical aspects. Moreover, the students say that the syllabus covers a lot that it is difficult to cover in one month. The exams are easy to pass if the student can cover the whole syllabus.
The RDVV is a state-run University, which means the course fees are quite affordable. The course fee varies according to the courses, although, on average, the fees are less than the fees charged by most institutions for similar systems.
The faculty at the university are qualified and knowledgeable in their respective fields. The students, in general, have found their teachers to be approachable and supportive in their academic growth. However, some members of the faculty in some departments need to improve their teaching skills to be able to impart knowledge more effectively.
The Career Guidance, Counseling, Training & Placement Cell works towards securing placements for the graduating courses. The placement record at RDVV varies significantly depending on the department and the course.
Few courses, such as MBA, have attracted recruiters offering good and quality placements. However, on average, the placement record is subpar, with only a minority of the students getting placed, and that too with mediocre packages.
Most of the buildings that make up the RDVV campus are old and quite shabby in appearance. While the buildings lack the glitz and glamour of more modernised buildings, the existing buildings are well-maintained and serve the needs of the students adequately.
The main facilities in the campus house the administrative offices and various departments. Additionally, the university also has buildings that contain the computer centre, the central library, the hostels for the boys and girls separately, etc.
Moreover, the campus area is quite small for a university, at just under 100 acres. However, there are several patches of scenic beauty on the campus, including a few gardens. The University library is stocked well with all the necessary books, journals, etc. As for the safety and security at the campus, it is under CCTV surveillance, and guards are posted on duty.
The campus does provide sports facilities to the students. There is a large playground and a hockey ground inside the campus. There are several other facilities provided inside the hostels as well.
RDVV has two hostels - one for the boys and another for the girls. The Devendra Boys Hostel has 100 rooms and a maximum occupancy of 120. As for the Kasturba Women's Hostel, the maximum occupancy is 160, within twin sharing. The facilities available at the hostels can be called average. Each room has a single bed, study table with bookshelf and Chair, cupboard, etc. The hostels also have study rooms and spaces for recreational activities.
As for the mess facilities, the students are provided with meals 3 times a day at the mess facility. The quality of the food is not that great, but students usually make do with it.
As for the affordability, the hostel and the mess are very affordable. The hostel fees are to be paid annually, and the mess fees are paid monthly. Most of the students who reside in the hostels are from financially backward communities, and the hostels have been established to foster them. There are several PGs available around the campus providing alternative accommodation options to the students. The PGs are available for boys and girls separately.
The student life at RDVV can be described as ordinary. There are not a lot of fests that are conducted at the university. There are a few, like the cultural fest and sports fest, that are shown. Moreover, there are celebrations of various festivals that are held at the university.
The university has a prescribed uniform that students are required to wear as part of their dress code. Moreover, the students are expected to adhere to the attendance policy at the university. Although the rules in the campus are not very strict, the students are expected to maintain the decorum in the campus.
The administrative staff has been accused of being unbearably slow in processing student requests. The students say that their 3-year course is extended to 4 years because of the delay in the release of the results. Even for other administrative tasks, the staff seems to be quite slow.
To speak about the diversity at the university, most of the students that attend the university are from the surrounding districts in the state. A large number of students from the tribal communities study at the university.
To summarise, the RDVV as a University has several areas that it needs to significantly improve in so that it can be a better sanctuary for academic growth. Mentioned below are the pros and cons of University:
