I am currently in the first year of my study and just completed my 1st semester in School of Management Studies.
Companies like UAS International, Vodafone, Decathlon, etc. offered us with a winter internship spanning a month which would have provided us with a monthly stipend of around Rs. 10,000 rupees the extra benefits like trips to Goa and Malaysia.
Presently I am doing two internships one of which is online associated with Wooplr and the other is an advertisement based internship in Motionik.
The companies like TCS hire for business analyst, operations, and marketing role.
Deloitte is a major recruiter offering roles for finance under US Taxation.
ITC provides opportunities for the marketing students. Other companies like Fluentgrid, Time and HCl recruits from our campus.
In terms of percentage of batch placed every year, our b-school stands out as it places more than 95% of the candidates with the highest package of TRs. 8.5 lakhs to the lowest of Rs. 3.5 lakhs.
We have alumni meet every year where we try to connect to our senior batches and form one efficient and effective network.
Most of our alumni are placed in extremely reputed organizations and hold influential positions.
Our alumni network is spread across companies like Microsoft, Google, Oracle to name a few.
Overall I can say that the Alumni network is very active and roaring.
Entrance Exams & Admissions :
In School of Management Studies, [SMS] Hyderabad University, Hyderabad the students has to clear the CAT exam to be eligible for the course.
I applied 1 month prior to CAT examination by visiting the University of Hyderabad official website and applying for the course online. I was shortlisted and the results were declared on the official website itself.
After the list was declared I had to go through the group discussion stage followed by the personal interview round in the month of March 2016.
Since the college, it is not among the top tier colleges in India the cut-offs are low but it is better to have a score of 65 percentile or more in CAT to be on the safer side since the cut-off vary each year based on the competition.
Fees & Scholarships :
Course fee in School of Management Studies is Rs. 75,000 per annum on an average.
If a person is from Telangana and from the reserved category they receive a reimbursement from the government but I cannot say much about the other scholarship opportunities as I did not receive one.
With such a nominal amount of Rs. 1.5 lakhs for the entire course of MBA students do not normally opt for loans but if one still requires it SBI will grant him/her loans as Hyderabad Central University has separate SBI branch inside the campus which cater specially to student's needs.
Academics & Faculty :
Class begins at 9:00 am in the morning and continues till 4:00 pm in the afternoon.
Exams, projects, and assignments like there are 3 internals and multiple projects in a semester. Each internal carries 30 marks along with the projects and is very important to get good grades.
The teachers are highly qualified and each professor works on government policy making projects and the impact of such policies on business and economy.
Teachers have an association with Indian School of business and visit as guest lecturers as well.
Teachers are extremely helpful and provide extra classes every day if needed.
Both the quality and method of teaching are commendable.
The overall experience is awesome.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
There are more than 50 hostels in School of Management Studies and they are almost free.
Outside the campus, the PGs are very expensive and normally students do not opt for that.
Food costs Rs.30 per meal and extra dishes cost more. Overall a food cost is Rs. 2,500 per month on an average and quality is pretty decent.
It's an entirely WiFi enabled campus and wherever one goes he/she can find a hotspot.
Every Hostel rooms have a broadband connection with speeds exceeding 2Mbps.
The Indira Gandhi library is one of India's largest and most advanced and completely solar powered.
The classrooms all have projectors, WiFi connectivity and are extremely clean.
Clubs & Associations :
In School of Management Studies, there is Debates club, singing club, dance club all are an integral part of the campus.
Festivals like Sukoon which is the University fest is a huge attraction as rock bands and games fill the atmosphere with joy and excitement.
Unnati is the management fest which is organised by the business school department.
There are numerous sports fests held every year which involves football, cricket, basketball, badminton etc.
Cultural fests are held every now and then since people from all across India and the world constellate in one place.
Bengali cultural fest, Malayalam cultural fest, North East cultural fest is always being organized.
Life is college is awesome and I never feel like going home.
