SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED :-

Various fee concessions, scholarships and stipends are awarded to deserving students by the Government of India and Government of TamilNadu.

To get any type of scholarship the Candidates should have secured minimum of 75% of attendance in the previous year of study.

SC/ST WELFARE SCHOLARSHIP

Government of India Scholarship: This scholarship is given to the SC/ST student whose parent’s annual income is below Rs 2,00,000 /-.

Government of Tamilnadu Scholarship: This scholarship is given to the SC/ST students without any limit on parent’s annual income. In this scholarship, the students will get only the special fees and examination fees as scholarship.

Students belonging to SC/ST community can avail any one of these two scholarships. But the SC/ST students belonging to Christian religion cannot get this scholarship.

Converted Christian of SC/ST: Government of Tamilnadu provides a scholarship to converted Christians of SC/ST. This scholarship is given to those students whose parent’s annual income is less than Rs 1,00,000 /- .

BC & MBC/DNC welfare Scholarships

The Government of Tamilnadu BC/MBC/DNC/Minority welfare departments provide various scholarships to the students belonging to the respective communities. This scholarship is given to those students whose parent’s annual income is less than Rs 1,00,000 /- .

Tamil Medium Stipend

For encouraging the students studying through Tamil Medium, a stipend for Tamil Medium students was initiated in the year 1971-72. Students pursuing studies through Tamil medium receive Rs.400/- per year under this scheme.

Research Fellowships

Rs 36,000 /- will be given by the state government to the research scholars as fellow ship.

Eligibility:

Students, who have acquired 75% of attendance are eligible to receive the above said scholarships.

Income limit for SC/ST Students

Since 6.7.2004, it is declared by the SC/ST welfare department that no scholarships will be given for the students whose parents' income is above Rs 1,00,000 /- but special fees amount and examination fees amount alone will be given to these students as scholarship.

SC/ST welfare department scholarship

  1. i) SC/ST scholarship given by central Govt.
  2. ii) SC/ST scholarship given by state Govt.

To get these scholarships the income limit should be calculated on the basic pay of the previous year.

BC/MBC/DNC welfare scholarships

There is no income limit for getting these scholarships; but these scholarships are given on the basis of attendance certificate i.e., the students of these communities should have obtained attendance percentage of 75 percentage. If the attendance falls below 75%, they are not eligible to receive these scholarships. 

Tamil Medium Students incentive scholarship will be given as cash.

Conditions to receive the above said scholarships

i) Parents' income should not cross Rs. 1,00,000 /-

ii) Students should belong to BC/ MBC / DNC communities.

iii) Certificate from the Tahsildar should be produced to get the first graduate scholarships.

iv) If the annual income is above Rs. 1,00,000 /-, the students belonging to SC-Converted Christians can not get the scholarships. The parent's basic pay of the previous year should be taken into account for income calculations.

Besides to these conditions, the students should have obtained 75 percentage of attendance in the previous year of study / course to receive the above said all scholarships. 

Details of scholarships offered by the directorate of collegiate education. 

National Merit Scholarship - Central Govt. Scheme

These scholarships are offered on the merit basis of marks obtained in SSLC and +2 levels. The list of meritorious candidates will be received from the selection committee. To receive the scholarships, the students should not receive any other scholarships. Besides the annual income should be 30 percentage of the general income or less Rs. 10,000 /-, the rest of the amount should be less than Rs 12,000 /-. 

Scholarships for the children of the freedom fighters. 

The children's parents who had served 3 months jail punishment during the freedom struggles would be eligible for getting this scholarship. This condition will be applicable to the students of Arts and Science Colleges Technical education. 

Fee concession for the children of Ex-servicemen:

Fee concessions will be given to the children of the Ex-service men following certain rules and regulations. 

Srilankan Refugees' Children's Fee Concession 

Fee concessions will be given to the children of the Srilankan refugees following certain rules and regulations. 

National Loan Scholarship

This is given on the basis of merits of the students by the proper announcements on the newspapers. Parents' income should not cross Rs 10,000 /- 

Interim (adhoc) scholarship based on Merits: 

If the students of ST and converted Christians have passed +2 in the first attempt with not less than 60% are eligible to receive Rs 400 /- for the I year of study alone. No income limit for this. 

Research Fellowships 

Rs 36,000 /- will be given by the state government to the research scholars as fellow ships. 

Note: 

  1. i) No application fees for SC/ST students
  2. ii) BC/MBC/DNC students need not pay tuition fees and special fees.
