Thiruvalluvar University may have been providing commendable education, but its abysmal placement record is a sore eye to the students.

GetMyUni's Verdict on Thiruvalluvar University

When one comes across the current students or alumni of Thiruvalluvar University, they are met with high praise for the university. Such is the performance of the university. Currently standing at the threshold of 22 years of its inception, the university has come a long way and established itself as a beacon of good education with an equally excellent campus environment that nurtured the growth of the students.

One of the commendable aspects of the university is its support towards its students, whether in terms of acquiring internships, academics, or extracurricular activities. Such support from Thiruvalluvar University encourages the students to focus on various aspects of college life.

However, like any educational institution, Thiruvalluvar University has also seen a few setbacks, which have caused distress among the students. Some of these include its strict rules, the behaviour of staff, and a few more.

Proficient and Updated Academics

Students have praised Thiruvalluvar University's academics. Currently, it offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. These degrees are offered in various fields, such as commerce, arts, science, law, agriculture, and many more. The course curriculum is designed as per the prescribed guidelines by UGC.

In addition, the latest developments and changes in the syllabus are immediately implemented to avoid any knowledge gap between the students. The courses are timely reviewed to check their credibility with the current market demand. There is promising research funding and push by the administration. Hence, it is a good university for those interested in making their careers in research.

Thiruvalluvar University Graduation Ceremony

Exams at the university are held in a timely manner. Although the difficulty level of the exams remains moderate. Students are able to score decent marks, provided they have prepared. However, few of the students have raised their concerns about the overload of the assignments. For a few branches, the number of assignments is such that the students struggle to keep up with it.

Slightly High Fees

Even though Thiruvalluvar University is a state government-run university, its course fees are slightly higher than most of its counterparts. For example, for B.Tech, students need to pay around INR 31,000 yearly; for B.Com, the yearly fee stands at INR 8,500.

Similarly, MBA pupils need to pay INR 32,500 yearly. Such fees might become a hurdle for many students who come from an economically compromised background. However, it is notable that the university provides various scholarships to students based on the merit and social and economic backgrounds of the students.

Scholarly and Friendly Faculties

The faculties of Thiruvalluvar University possess a high level of degree and experience before they are employed here. All the faculties have at least a master's degree and most of them have received their doctorate degree. Such deep knowledge of their subjects makes the lectures and teaching enriching.

Students have experienced deep satisfaction with the faculties. They have also noted that they are warm in their approach and are eager to help the students in need. Furthermore, the administration has ensured a good number of faculties in each of the departments with respect to the number of students.

In spite of the majority of the faculty members having commendable work ethics and good teaching techniques, few students have expressed their dissatisfaction about a few faculties on various online portals. They have said that the lectures of a few professors are uninteresting and lack the required technical knowledge. Hence, in the end, it presents a mixed picture of the faculties.

Decent Infrastructure

Thiruvalluvar University is not prominent in infrastructure. Although it has built all the basic necessary infrastructures. The classrooms are well-ventilated and big enough to accommodate a larger group of students. The library of the university hosts a plethora of books, theses, journals, magazines, new papers, educational CDs, and many more. These are available online and offline. It has curated an impressive collection of 11,677 books. Not only this, but it also stocks up the video lecture collection.

The laboratories are made as per the requirements of each department. The labs are maintained and have a good number of equipment. Though few of this equipment can be upgraded. Furthermore, the campus has a robust security system, making it a safe and secure environment. The Thiruvalluvar University has the added facilities of a bank, a post office, and a medical centre for both students and staff.

One of the commendable aspects of the university is that it has set up a disability resource centre. There are a few canteens and cafes located inside the campus. It serves various goods priced reasonably. However, in terms of taste, it does not rank high. Many sports opportunities are available for the students to participate in. It includes table tennis, various sports fields and more.

Good Hostel Facilities

The student's accommodation at Thiruvalluvar University comprises all the basic amenities like bed, table, chair, etc. Despite such facilities, students have often complained online on various platforms about the poor maintenance of the same. Students have to pay quite a hefty amount to avail the hostel facilities. In such scenarios, the hostel administration should immediately address such issues which hamper the well-being of the students.

The hostel has 24x7 security, which makes it a safe place for students. In addition, students have an enjoyable hostel life with few recreational facilities.

Lacking Placement Opportunities

Thiruvalluvar University extends its help in every possible way to help students secure internships or placement opportunities. Still, over the years it has not been able to apprise any suitable number of recruiters to the university. The number of recruiters participating in the placements can be as low as 11. The average salary packages offered are between INR 1.8 to 2.4 LPA. Such low salary packages are way beyond the industry standards.

The only ray of hope among this is that the placement cell conducts various training sessions for students to develop their soft skills and personality, which aids them professionally in future.

Cheerful Campus Life

Thiruvalluvar University is known for organising various events throughout the year. Hence, the campus is always alive. The events include both cultural and sports activities. Students are also actively encouraged to participate in sports events and enrol themselves in various student-led clubs. They can also join in NSS, Red Ribbon Club, Youth Red Club, and many more such prestigious organisations.

Although, one thing the students have to abide by is its strict rules and regulations. The administration is very keen on maintaining such laws, including the 75% attendance policy. Many a time it becomes a tedious affair for the students to sustain such a thing. Although, students do not have to maintain any strict dress code.

Since it is a state university, students from Tamil Nadu are admitted. The students from various backgrounds can be seen among the crowd. Apart from this, there is also a healthy balance between male and female students.
