The city of Surat is not known as an educational hub. Not many educational institutions with varied courses are available for the students. For such a place, Uka Tarsadia University comes to the rescue. Over the past 12 years, the university has established itself. Specifically for students aspiring to study engineering, UTU offers much relief. 

However, it appears that, even after a decade of its establishment, Uka Tarsadia University does not satisfy the students in many aspects. For instance, its placement record is a cause of much concern. So are the fees. In all these worrisome aspects, its infrastructure acts as a pillar.

Well-Defined Courses

Uka Tarsadia University follows a well-articulated course structure. It is practical-oriented and follows the UGC guidelines. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and research programs. These are offered in various fields such as engineering, pharmacy, arts, commerce, business, etc. The most popular course seems to be the Computer Science and Engineering.

Many students even have opted for this course from word of mouth. Even the alumni recommend this course. A few students have also said on various online platforms that the exams are not a tough nut to crack. They are easygoing and passable. They are easygoing and passable. Among all these, there is a lack of funds for the research programs. 

Scholarly and Kind Faculties

The faculties form the backbone of UTU. All the faculty members are highly qualified. Many even have a PhD degree. All students have expressed satisfaction with the teaching quality the faculties delivered. They are kind and helpful towards the students. However, the pupils have also remarked online about a few faculties being strict and reserved.

Such faculty members are less dedicated towards their jobs and are not bothered to help the students. The faculty-student ratio student ratio is decent. Uka Tarsadia University also offers various scholarships to its students based on their merit and financial backgrounds.

Steep Course Fees

Uka Tarsadia University, even with good infrastructure and a decent course curriculum, charges high fees. For instance, MSc students must pay around INR 96,000 in the first year alone. For BCA, the one-year charge is INR 75,000. For many students, it is tough to pay such hefty amounts. 

Commendable Infrastructure

UTU has built an impressive infrastructure. The campus itself sits on 120 acres with lush greeneries all around. The campus comprises many of the latest technologies from the educational and relevant fields. The university has a central library with various online and offline resources, magazines, journals, and more.

There is a stationery shop and canteen inside the campus. All the necessary facilities the students require for their academic life are available inside the campus. The laboratory for the concerned departments is well maintained.

There are buses for the students for transportation as well. Students are actively encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities. The sports facilities include a badminton court, basketball, cricket, and many more. The campus has a 24x7 security that makes the students and staff safe and secure all the time.

Although with such a robust few students have expressed concerns regarding the lack or absence of equipment for a few departments. Some even complained that the computer lab smelled foul. The administration should address such things immediately, and necessary actions should be taken.

Plush Students Accommodations

Uka Tarsadia University has built a plush and comfortable hostel facility. The hostel is available for both boys and girls. It consists of all the primary necessities needed to sustain the daily life. Both single and multiple occupancy rooms are available to choose from. The rooms also come with air conditioning or non-air conditioning. Students can choose the accommodation as per their requirements.

Bed, chair, table, WiFi, etc are all included in the hostel. The entire hostel has a capacity of around 1,450. The hostel charges range from INR 38,000 to 78,000 per year. The hostel charges are inclusive of breakfast and dinner. Though the charges are not cheap, it is a good option given the facilities. In any case, if students want to stay outside, then they can do so as well. Many excellent and affordable options are available for paying guests.

Poor Placement Record

Despite students spending heaps of money on course fees, the placement records are not commendable. In the past years, the university has only been able to apprise a handful of good recruiters. Even so, the salary packages are not as per the industry standards. This causes dissatisfaction among the students, and it is rightly so. For any technical or non-technical courses, the students aim to get placed in a reputed company with at least industry standard compensation. 

The placement preparation sessions are also not extensive. It is a significant skill development area that the administration needs to focus on. As per the online organic reviews by the students, the highest package offered is INR 10,60,000 LPA, and the average package is between INR 3,00,000 and 3,50,000 LPA. The placement rate remains between 80%-90%.

Spirited Campus Life

Life at Uka Tarsadia University is happy and cheerful. The university celebrated many cultural and sports events. It also organises an annual college festival. Students can take part in various clubs or societies as per their interests. This helps the students to develop leadership skills and camaraderie with their fellow students. There are no strict rules and regulations binding them immensely.

The college environment is relaxed. However, basic rules must be followed to maintain smooth functioning and respect for others. There is also no implementation of any kind of dress code or uniforms. A mandatory 75% attendance requirement needs to be adhered to. In spite of many shortcomings, students enjoy their prime years on the college campus. Not much diversity in the crowd can be seen, as the students are primarily from the state of Gujarat. 

Is Uka Tarsadia University Worth it?

Even though it has many shortcomings, UTU is a good college for those who cannot afford to study outside Surat. Uka Tarsadia University is among the best among the surrounding areas. It offers a good number of courses. But suppose students have placement and overall development for them as their core goals. In that case, UTU must be reconsidered before choosing. As the scenario for placements, overall leadership and soft skills development paints a grim picture.
