Georgia State University is one of Georgia's four research institutions and one of the state's four research universities. It has a solid reputation as the largest university in the top ten universities with a varied majority-minority student body, based on enrolment. It is a minority-serving university with Georgia's and the United States' most ethnically diverse campus. US News ranks Georgia State University as the 206th best National University in 2020. The university was also ranked 3rd best undergraduate teaching, 3rd best innovative school, 9th best top performers in social mobility, and 105th best top public institutions in the United States. In 2019, Forbes placed the University as the 519th best college, however, the list has yet to be updated. In 2020, the University is ranked 185th among public colleges, 208th among best research institutes, and 117th among best universities in the South in the United States.
Georgia State University has consistently produced the highest number of African Americans with bachelor's degrees in the country. QS (Top universities) has GSU ranked between 201-250 for 2020 and 2021 in its Accounting & Finance ranking. GSU's PG Business and Economics ranking has gone from 151 to 175 in the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings for 2021. US News ranks GSU 33rd in its MBA Business Analytics ranking for 2021.
