The University of New Mexico was founded in 1889. Its main campus is located in Albuquerque in New Mexico, U.S., and it covers an area of nearly 800 acres. UNM is a public institution that was founded in 1889. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 16,662, its setting is urban, and the campus size is 769 acres. UNM was established to become the state university of New Mexico. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Its in-state tuition and fees are $8,863; out-of-state tuition fees are $24,924.

UNM’s NCAA Division I program offers 16 sports and forms special teams for each of the sports. The university has its own sports teams such as cross country running, basketball, football, skiing, and soccer.

UNM has branch campuses in Gallup, Los Alamos, Taos, and Valencia and UNM West. The campus is divided into three portions - north, south, and central. The central campus of this university has the main academic university and is situated between Central Avenue on the south, Girard Boulevard on the east, Lomas Boulevard on the north, and University Boulevard on the west. The North Campus comprises of medical and law schools that are situated on the northern sides of the central campus. The central campus comprises of 4 museums - Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, Geology Museum, Southwestern Biology Museum, and University Art Museum. The south campus of the university has UNM's athletic facilities. The student union building of the university has a food court, movie theatre, event facilities, student government offices and organization offices, and recreational areas. It is known to be a major hub for on-campus students.

Admission Details

Admission requirement for graduates, undergraduates, and international students is very basic at UNM. Its acceptance rate is 69.6%.

Admission requirement for freshmen

  • A cumulative high school GPA of 2.75, or
  • ACT composite score of 21 or SAT score of 1060, or
  • Ranked in the top 20% of their graduating class

Admission requirement for graduates

  • Undergraduate degree equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree. Some three-year bachelor programs are not equal to the US. degree. The candidate must check before applying.
