WVSU is ranked 2nd as the best college in West Virginia, among public institutions, it is ranked 4th as the most affordable out of 100 institutions of higher education, 9th as the most affordable college in America by Best Value Schools, 12th among the 50 most innovative small college business departments, and it is ranked 14th as the best historically black colleges and universities.
WVSU has some subjects that are recognized globally and domestically. It made its place in a few ranking lists such as 3rd among 50 best value small colleges for a biology degree, 3rd among 50 best value small colleges for a business administration degree, and 10th among the 50 most affordable selective schools for a bachelor of social work. It is also ranked 451-500th in Medicine, 551-600th in Biological Sciences, and 301-350th in Material Sciences by QS Ranking.
