History of JKBOPEE
Before 1987, the selection for the undergraduate and graduate courses was made by a Government department and it was part of their additional work. As the number of candidates writing for the entrance examinations increased, there was an increase in the workload of the department as well. They decided to constitute a full-time examining body in 1987 and their purpose was to organize entrance tests in a systematic and timely manner, which resembled the pattern followed by other states in the country. The Competent Authority thus satisfactorily performed the task.
In the year 2002, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination Act was passed by the State Legislature. The board which was set up replaced the Competent Authority Entrance Examination intending to perform the objectives more efficiently.
