Lucknow University law syllabus similar to that of national law universities

LUCKNOW: From the next session, LLB syllabus at Lucknow University will be similar to that of the national law universities of the country. The curriculum of LLB (3 years) and LLB (integrated) courses is being upgraded after a gap of nine years.

Law syllabus to be updated every two years

Students join the three-year LLB course after graduation and the five-year LLB (integrated) course after class XII. "Law syllabus should be updated every two years as Acts and rules are changed and amended for the students. The last update in syllabus was made in 2008 when syllabi of both courses were made the same. In the LLB (integrated) course, syllabus for second, third and fourth years is the same as that in three-year LLB," said law faculty dean RK Singh.

Singh said the new syllabus is being designed as per the demand of the corporate and the law sectors of the country. The topics will help students in competitive and judiciary examinations, he added.According to Singh, the biggest challenge will be modifying the curriculum and getting all the affiliated universities to follow the required.As a result, students will find it hard to cope. This was the reason why the university didn't modify its syllabus over the years.

Singh said. "Our fee is eight times more than that of three-year LLB but there is no difference in the syllabus. We can gain the same knowledge after graduation in less fee, then what is the use of pursuing an integrated course?" said a student of LLB (integrated), Rishabh Singh.

 "LU was among the few universities in the country that introduced LLB (integrated) in 1997. It has given illustrious alumni," said former vice-chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Balraj Chauhan.
