Rashtriya Military Schools in India were first established as King George Royal Indian Military College to impart free education to the sons of service personnel and prepare them for Army examinations, including the Indian Special Certificate of Training. Each school has over 300 students, 100 staff members, and 20 faculty members. Ajmer Military School

Bangalore Military School
Until 1967, the school followed the ICSE curriculum for teaching, however, in 1967, the Rashtriya military school in India-Bangalore adopted the CBSE syllabus and has continued to remain affiliated with the CBSE Board.

Belgaum Military School
The school was first established in the year 1945. The school was named King George's Military School in 1950. However, later in 1966, the school was renamed Belgaum Military School. In 1998, the school reinvented itself at Military School, Belgaum.

Dholpur Military School
Rashtriya Military School in Dholpur is one of five military schools in India. It is situated in Dholpur in Rajasthan and was established in 1962 by the former Defence Minister, the late Sh Krishnan Menon. Its purpose was to facilitate the education of the children of Defense personnel and civilians.

Military School Admission Process
Military schools in India have a standard admission process for admitting students to any five schools. Rashtriya Military schools conduct admission for class 6th and class 9th. The eligibility criteria for entry into both classes have been given below.
- Class 6th - The interested candidate should be between 10 and 11 years old at the time of admission. The candidate should have also completed class 5th is currently enrolled in class 5th at a recognized school.
- Class 9th - The candidate should be aged between 13 and 14 years old, have passed class 8th, and currently studying in class 8th at a recognized school.
- Class 11th - The candidate should be more than 14 years and less than 15 years of age at the time of admission.
Medical Examination
Selected candidates must undergo a medical examination from one of the military hospitals nominated by the Director-General of Medical Services before admission. Only those candidates who are deemed medically fit will be allowed to seek admission.
Application Form
The first step in the admission process to the Rashtriya Military School in India is to fill out the application form. Application forms will be available for a nominal fee at any of the Rashtriya Military Schools. Applicants can collect them either by visiting the school or requesting the application forms via post by self-address slip.
Common Entrance Test
A Common Entrance Test (CET) is conducted for admission into the Rashtriya Military Schools in India for classes 6th and 9th. The exams will be an automated OMR test based on different subjects for class 6th and 9th and will be
- Class 6th - CET will be conducted for admission to class 6th on English, Mathematics, Intelligence, and General Knowledge. The questions will be based upon the class 5th syllabus of the CBSE curriculum.
- Class 9th - The school will test the standard entrance test for candidates seeking admission to class 9th on English, Hindi, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science. The questions on the test will be based on the class 8th Syllabus.
Personal Interview
Candidates who have cleared the Common Entrance Test will be required to attend an in-person interview at their respective Rashtriya Military Schools. The final list will be published on the school's official website - rashtriyamilitaryschools. One can also view it on the individual Rashtriya Military School campus.
Reservation
- 70% seats are reserved for the sons of JCO/OR of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, who have served and are currently serving the nation.
- The remaining 30% is reserved for sons of officers of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and civilian children.
- A total of 50 seats are reserved for children of service personnel who were killed while serving.
- 15% and 7.5% of seats from all categories are reserved for SC/ST.
Note:
Rashtriya military schools in India were first established to provide education to the sons of defense personnel. It was initially founded as King George's Royal Indian Military School. The school later established itself as a public school in 1952 and offered admission to sons of defense personnel and civilians. Subsequently, in 1954, Rashtriya Military schools were recognized as part of the Indian public school's conference (IPSC).
In 1966, the schools were renamed to be known as military schools. Finally, on 25th June 2017, the schools became known as the Rashtriya Military Schools, widely known today. Only five military schools are within India, and Rashtriya military schools produce several high-ranking officials belonging to the Armed forces.
