Avinashilingam University, established in 1988 in Coimbatore is a multi-disciplinary institution serving as an academic hub to women pursuing higher education in sciences, arts, management, Tamil and music. Granted the 6th rank in ARIIA for its overall excellence, Avinashilingam University has provided a well-rounded curriculum for students from all income groups. 

What makes the University popular in Southern India is the accessibility. Students can grab their choice of course by paying a reasonable tuition fee, in exchange for world-class academics. Admission process is straightforward, based on merit and entrance exam performance. Backed by an intellectual faculty, Avinashilingam University facilitates a positive learning experience.

Avinashilingam University’s campus has a modest structure, with all basic amenities required in a college. If students are expecting hi-tech smart classrooms with air conditioning, then the University is not the best choice. However, Avinashilingam University has provided the following amenities to students which are within its capabilities.

Inexpensive Accommodation with Mess Facilities

Students who wish to avail accommodation at the University, need to apply separately for the campus hostel. Selections are made from each department based on the candidate’s merit and past performances in extracurriculars.  

In total, Avinashilingam University has six hostels with all modern amenities and conveniences. Post-graduate students and staff are allocated rooms in a separate building. All hostelers can avail fooding services from the in-house caterer, however the options are limited to vegetarian dishes. The mess runs on a dividing system.

Students must pay a fee of INR 13,500 as accommodation fee and INR 3000 monthly as mess fee. Confirmations are sent to students only if fees are paid. Students are aware that hostels and food facilities are simple and cheap. 

The college makes each hosteler sign a declaration form which consists of hostel rules and regulations, some of which are given below.

• It is mandatory to attend both morning and evening prayers.
• Costly jewellery is strictly prohibited to wear or store in the hostel premises.
• If students are absent from lectures, they must sign a letter of permission from the warden.
• Day scholars cannot enter or stay at the hostel.
• Ragging is Banned at Avinashilingam University.

Raising the Bar in Physical Recreation

The department of Physical Education and Sports spearheads the ‘Sport’s Day’ event which is one of the biggest celebrations on campus. Students enjoy being a part of the varsity’s exclusive Taekwondo, Fencing, Judo and Chess teams and showcase their talents. 

Sports is an integral part of Avinashilingam University, where they even encourage students to build their own club sport. It is considered to be the perfect atmosphere to relax, unwind and meet talented students. Besides sporting events and activities, the college also hosts cultural events on special occasions such as Independence Day, Founders Day and others.

Avinashilingam University has a placement rate of 92% with companies such as Parle, Cognizant, Dabur and Wipro gracing the campus for recruitment. Students undergo placement training 5th semester onwards, which prepares them for final placement drives held at the end of the course. 

Till date the highest placement package for undergraduate courses is INR 4 LPA. The University additionally ensures that most students avail the numerous internship opportunities for better prospects in the future. 

Some departments also have mandatory internship programs, wherein students aid in finding solutions to rural problems centering farmers and the deprived. Here students must use their innovation skills by utilising natural resources to help these farmers raise their standard of living.
