About Basanti Devi College:
Basanti Devi College was established in the year 1959 by the Government of West Bengal. College was named after freedom fighter Basanti Devi. Basanti Devi was wife of Sri Chittaranjan Das, she was the first Indian lady to be imprisoned under British Rule for her involvement in the Indian freedom struggle. Basanti Devi college was the first Government-sponsored college for women in Kolkata. Basanti Devi College is located at the junction of the urban and rural conglomerate, this college caters to the needs of girl students. Most of the students here come from backward classes, minority communities and from below poverty line. The college offers scope for higher education for women with special needs. The college provides scope for the empowerment of girl students by helping them to develop their self-help skills, self-reliance and independence.
