Learning Culture

D J Academy is set amidst 21 acres of land in on eco-friendly location, 18 kilometres from city centre. From the academy one has a breath taking view of the Western Ghats. This view is DJAD’s rare distinction. The academy is housed in an architecturally beautiful building, well-equipped with all the facilities required to sharpen the brilliant minds.

Library & Resource Centre

The library cum resource centre houses not only books but also films, music, digital resources and product samples for reference. Apart from the vast collections of books, foreign and Indian journals and magazines are available in the library for Management, MCA and Design students. DJAD also subscribes to the EBSCO online Database to access 1100 journals which include 30 design related journals.

Workshops

The academy has well equipped workshops for students’ use. The workshop is equipped with hand tools and work benches fitted with vices apart from machines for turning, drilling, cutting, vacuum forming etc.

Material is the language of a designer. Materials are used to give physical form to ideas generated by designers. Designers work with materials as diverse as clay and FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic, steel and wood. Many of the machines therefore, are Special PurposeMachines. A design school’s workshop unlike a traditional workshop has to evolve and update itself with each project undertaken. Some of the machineries are such that they will help the Workshop of D J Academy of Design attain greater self sufficiency. A separate marked out area is allotted for a spray paint booth with proper exhaust facilities for the students to work in.

Media Lab

DJAD’s state-of-the-art Media Lab facilitates high quality film projects and sound recording and mixing. The lab is equipped with industry-standard hardware and software along with a shooting floor capable of handling all post-production functions for professional quality film and sound projects.

Studios

Studios are the place where students involve in creative work, here is where learning takes place. Unlike the normal classrooms, studios are flexible to the design learning requirement, to give students the ambience to think and perform creatively. The studios are spacious and well lit with individual work space. Though classes end at 4.30 pm, studios are open till 9 pm for students to continue their work. Studios are WIFI enabled.

Hostels

There are furnished hostels, separate for girls and boys. Since Design is round the clock activity there is enough space capacity in hostels to accommodate all the students who join the academy. Both the hostels are equipped with solar water heating facilities.

Students’ Mess

The students’ mess is open from early in the morning till night, provides neat and quality food for the community. Both South Indian and North Indian foods are served.

Students’ Store

There is a snack bar at the campus providing tea, coffee and snacks.

Sports & Recreation

There is a football field, a volleyball court and a concrete basket ball court for the outdoor games and a table for the table tennis too. Both the hostels have mini gym facilities.

The recreation center is a good space with a television and is the place where the senior and junior students interact socially with each other.

Design Centre

The Design centre was established at DJAD to cater to the needs of the industry. Design services are rendered in the areas of product design, package design, interiors, graphic design etc. The design centre helps the faculties to keep in touch with the real life industry situations as well as develops the student’s skill sets. The projects are carried out by students as well as faculty members. The design centre has worked for companies such as Pricol Tech, LMW, Sara Elgi, T.Stanes & Company, Leela Group of Hotels and Quattro.

Research Centre

DJAD has research and publication activities in select design-related areas such as design education, universal design and future design. DJAD also undertakes industry-sponsored research projects and craft-based research.
