Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar was founded in 1961 as a State College of Sports by the Government of Punjab. The college is the only college of its kind in Asia as a whole. The primary aim of setting up the institution is to develop talented athletes who can excel at the World Olympics and International Sports Meetings. It also provides them with a periodic university education that can allow them to find appropriate placements in society.

Government Arts and Sports College have produced more than 100 national and international reputation players, including 5 Arjuna Awardees. The college offers undergraduate courses in Arts and Computer Applications. GASC Admission is merit-based.
