Hislop College is one of the oldest colleges in Nagpur, it was founded in 1883. The college was affiliated to the University of Calcutta until 1904, and later to Allahabad University. In 1923 it was one of six colleges affiliated to the University of Nagpur, which is now known as Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. The college was named after the Scottish missionary Stephen Hislop who worked closely with Robert Hunter in the Vidarbha region. The college campus is spread across more than 7.5 acres of land in Nagpur.
The students of Hislop College are encouraged to pursue a variety of interests and extracurricular activities.
