RTMNU was established on 4th August 1923 with 927 college students and six affiliated colleges. It is one of India's oldest universities, the second oldest in Maharashtra. The institute is a proud member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Admission to courses like B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Sc, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, etc., are based on entrance exams like GATE/NATA/MAH CET/MAH MCA CET.
RTMNU is named after Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, a famed religious leader, orator, and musician from Vidarbha. The University has three Constituent Colleges/Institutions (Law College, Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, and College of Education). RTMNU college has two campuses; the vintage campus near Maharajbagh zoo, established in 1923, serves as the administrative block, and the new campus near Futala Lake is much larger and houses the departments.
