The foundation stone of this institute was laid by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Late Capt Rajiv Gandhi on 07 November 1985. It is located in Amethi, UP. The college produces excellent pilots on the grounds of the Fursatganj District. When airlines choose pilots for their company, IGRUA is always their first choice. It is an autonomous body that works under the control of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Govt. of India (GOI) through its Governing Council (GC). Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy is one of the best flying schools in the world. It can be considered as an IIT/IIM of Aviation Training. The institute offers a BSc aviation course degree along with CPL with Multi Engine Endorsement. It is a government-owned institute. The institute offers Pilot training to the aspiring cadets of Indian Airlines, BSF, Coast Guard candidates, Indian Air Force as well as Indian Navy. The college provides separate hostels for boys and girls(fully residential). It has the largest fleet of the best training aircraft in India. IGRUA has been selected as the best training institute for training its pilots by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. One of the best features of IGRUA is ensuring pilot fitness by providing facilities like a sports ground and swimming pool.
The institute provides a handful of courses to its students which are approved by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India so that they can avail maximum benefit from it. These courses are mentioned below:
Some of the ground training subjects are Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Aircraft GK, Multijet Operations, Crew Resource Management, etc. Other than this, the institute provides certain courses that are conducted on request as per the requirements of the students. Another course that IGRUA offers is a Multi-Crew Co-operation course.

The admission in IGRUA takes place in three steps:
Representatives from bigwigs like DGCA, Phycologist, IGRUA examiners, and NACIL are present in those interviews. Following GOI guidelines, some seats are reserved for SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS categories. A Class I medical certificate is also required before joining the course.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy has Technical-Cum-Operational area that is spread over an area of 239 acres. The classrooms are air-conditioned. It has in-campus hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The vast area enables the students to hold extracurricular activities. Night flight facilities are available. It has an independent and dedicated runway of 1722 m in length. Overall, the campus of IGRUA is vast and used for various academic purposes. IGRUA provides two separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostels are well-furnished and provide accommodation at nominal charges. Both these hostels are within the campus. The hostel can accommodate up to 200 students from all across India. The hostel works on a first come first serve basis. Other than this, there are various PGs where students can find accommodation at reasonable prices. The hostel has a mess facility for both boys and girls. The quality of food that the hostel serves is of good quality and proper hygiene is maintained for the same. There is a wide range of options for snacks and that too at a reasonable price.
