GetMyUni's Verdict on LNMU

  • Darbhanga , Bihar
Compare

Situated in an area with few universities, LNMU provides educational opportunities to students belonging to rural areas of Bihar. However, due to the lack of good-quality professors and low placement rates, the university is not the best first option.

Like all the private universities, Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) also has several positive and negative aspects. Students who have graduated from the university have unanimously said that the main survival aspect here is to focus on their studies and not to expect the professors or their fellow students to help them.

Located in the heart of Bihar, Mithila is famous for its language, painting and culture. As it is situated in a rural area, the majority of the students are from smaller backgrounds and lack knowledge of the modern world.

Allegedly, the university management is corrupt, and the professors are casteist, treating people differently here. The overall curriculum is not as complicated, and the teaching is mediocre, with only a few teachers taking an interest in imparting quality education to the students.

The university is infamous for its partiality to students based on their financial situation and their surname. As most wealthy families send their children to universities and colleges outside of the state or abroad, almost all the students at LNMU belong to minority groups.

Table of Contents

Offers Rudimentary Courses

The university offers basic programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels. The main disciplines available in the university include Engineering, Languages, Science, Performing Arts, and Humanities.

Most programs are available at the postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels. Apart from these courses, the university also offers certificate programs in specified fields. In contrast to the undergraduate courses, LNMU offers myriad postgraduate courses, which include master’s programs in the fields of Science, Commerce, Management and Arts.

Highly Affordable Courses

The course fee structure is highly affordable to students belonging to economically weaker sections. Besides that, the students can also avail of financial assistance offered by the university to help them get a proper education after the completion of class 12.

The average tuition fee for courses like B.Tech and MBA will be between INR 1,00,000 and 1,70,000, per year. Whereas, for master's programs in Science, Arts and Commerce, the tuition fee per year will range from INR 4,810 to INR 8,910.

Narrow-Minded Faculty Members

Although the university has fairly educated professors, the overall impression of the faculty is not up to the mark. Students have complained about the professors discriminating against the students based on their financial and caste background.

Most teachers are only focused on taking attendance and completing the syllabus as soon as possible. This leads to a scenario where the students are forced to prepare for the courses and exams by themselves. They must persuade the teachers if they require any sort of assistance.

With the exception of a few professors in each department, most teachers do not make any extra efforts to ensure the students understand the concepts, nor do they conduct any interactive activities.

Nonetheless, as LNMU is one of the top universities in the state, the teachers here are comparatively better than that of the other institutions. Some professors are helpful and easily approachable to students to clarify their doubts.

Traditional Infrastructure With Modern Facilities

LNMU has a traditional infrastructure, which is historically relevant. But, the facilities available in the university are regularly updated to meet the ever-changing educational needs. Spread over 201 acres of land, the infrastructure is one of the best features of the university. However, the university lacks certain facilities, such as Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the campus. In short, the infrastructure can only be regarded as average.

The university has laboratories for the required subjects, which are equipped with sufficient facilities to provide practical learning experiences. The laboratories are old, and some require maintenance.

The university offers different facilities for indoor and outdoor sports. It has courts for Basketball, Badminton, and Table Tennis, as well as carroms and chess boards. The university conducts sports events throughout the year for talented students.

The campus has a clean and spacious canteen where students have access to different kinds of food and beverages. It is a prime hangout spot for students and teachers.

Safe Housing Facilities

LNMU offers hostel facilities for students hailing from outside the state. The university campus includes 3 boys’ hostels and 1 girls’ hostel. The hostels are cleaned and maintained every year to provide the required facilities. The inmates are served timely meals in a clean and hygienic mess and comprise entertainment facilities, such as television, and indoor and outdoor sports.

To ensure the safety and security of the students, each hostel has superintendents and wardens, along with security personnel. They also have dedicated medical care centres that provide round-the-clock service.

On top of that, students have the option to get accommodation outside the campus provided by PGs, with nominal rents.

Mediocre Campus Life

In spite of having several clubs and organizations on campus, students tend to have an average college life as these clubs are less active. Organizations under the Commerce and Management departments are considered to be the most active. They conduct several events and fests, mainly organized by MBA students.

In terms of cultural events, an annual cultural fest is conducted every year where students are given the opportunity to participate and showcase their talents.

The most active section apart from academics is the sports clubs. Numerous sports tournaments and competitions are held throughout the year. These competitions are held for Martial Arts, Football, Yoga, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton, Kabadi, and Table Tennis, among others. The authorities release the sports calendar at the beginning of the academic year, based on which the students can enrol for the competitions.

Diversity on Campus

Most of the students on campus are from the rural areas of Bihar, which results in a less modern crowd with a lack of exposure. Students from all walks of life are part of the campus. However, the inclusivity on campus is lesser as several students have faced discrimination on different occasions. However, almost an equal number of boys and girls are part of the campus.

Dress Code

Certain departments, like Commerce and Management, require students to wear the uniform, but the other departments do not have a set dress code. Still, the students are expected to wear modest, decent clothes, abiding by the strict rules set by the university.

Average Placement Rates

The placement rate of LNMU is not up to the mark. Only 30% of students are assured of good placements as not many reputed companies participate in the recruitment program at the university due to the lack of an active placement cell. Even though the university offers numerous internship opportunities to the students, most of these programs are unpaid.

The placement packages offered to the students are lower than expected as well. The highest salary package offered in the previous year was INR 3.5 LPA, with the average CTC at INR 1.5 LPA.

Final Impression on LNMU

Being one of the few universities that provides good quality education in the state, Lalith Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) is a safe option for students. The admission process for studying at the university is less complicated as it does not require any competitive exam scores. The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to any program at LNMU is the submission of a class 12/intermediate certificate.

As the university is located in a rural area, the crowd is less modern compared to the other places. Nevertheless, the university is good place for students from backward classes and minorities who cannot afford to leave the state.

The pros and cons of studying at LNMU are as follows.

Lack of good quality faculties and student crowd
