Placements & Internships : The B.Tech course in MERI, Kolkata consists of 8 semesters, in which 8th semester is for sea training. That means 7 semesters for study in college and last semester for onboard training. Several companies like NYK Shipping, FLEET MANAGEMENT, MSC , ANGLO EASTERN GROUP, Shipping Corporation Of INDIA, GREAT EASTERN and others come into the campus for placement. Every year at least 60 to 70 ℅ of students get placed in the above-mentioned companies. Salary in Marine Engineering is high due to the tough and hard labor on the sea and it varies between ₹20,000 per month to 50,000 per month for the training period. Entrance Exams & Admissions : Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Kolkata, under Indian Maritime University, Kolkata campus is one of the oldest colleges for Marine Engineering aspirants. It offers B.Tech in Marine Engineering through its affiliation to IMU. IMU organises an exam called IMU CET every year in the month of May - June every year for candidates who want to go into marine related courses like B.Tech and B.Sc. The candidate has to apply for the exam and if selected they go through counselling procedure which is done online. The cutoff for General candidates is under 500 rank and for OBC candidates is under 1200 to 1500 rank.

Fees & Scholarships : The course fee for college is Rs.9 lakh for 4 years which comes to ₹2,25,000 per year. The college provides a scholarship of ₹75,000 for meritorious students who come under top 30 rank in college and ₹50,000 for students who come under rank 30 to 60. If you want to avail loan then, the State Bank of India is available which provides scholar loan of ₹10 lakh to students very easily.

Academics & Faculty : The classes run from Monday to Friday. The daily routine for college is 9am to 4:30 pm. Exams are conducted in each semester at the end and a class test is conducted for each subject in mid-semester which consists of viva and written test. The quality of teaching is good and the college consists of a large Marine workshop where you can go and learn about various ship parts and its working. A large marine diesel engine is separately provided in the campus to know its working. Overall if you want to pursue B.Tech in Marine Engineering then it is one of the best colleges for you.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : It is mandatory for the students to stay in the hostel and no student can reside in pg or home. The institute has 4 hostels one for each year. The hostel fee, laundry fee and mess fee is included in the total fee. So you don't have to give any extra fee for these things. The hostels are good and 4 students reside in one room during the first and second year, 3 in a room in the 3rd year and single rooms are provided in the 4th year. There are 4 mess,one for each year. The mess provides good and healthy food for you. The college doesn't provide wifi inside the campus, but there are various LAN providers who provide a broadband connection at cheaper rates. The quality of classrooms and labs are fine. Some classroom are air conditioned. The working hour of the library is from 9am to 7pm from Monday to Friday. It will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Clubs & Associations : The main festival on the campus is TEMPEST, which is organized in the month of November. Tempest is a 5-day long fest which includes Chakravyuh - sports events, Cacophony - dancing, singing, band and celebrity performances, Propulsion - marine quiz, paper presentation, Lan-a-thon, Model making, etc. The life in college is good and ground for various sports are provided such as hockey, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, etc.
