The National Heart Institute (NHI) was established in 1981 as India’s first dedicated cardiac care center and the first private cardiac catheterization lab outside the developed world. Founded by Dr. Paul Dudley White and Dr. S. Padmavati, it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as part of the All India Heart Foundation. NHI’s mission was to provide high-quality cardiac care to paying patients and use the revenue to treat the underprivileged. Today, it is a NABH and NABL-accredited hospital, renowned for its expertise in open heart surgery, coronary bypass, angiography, angioplasty, and more. NHI offers affordable health check-ups and treats patients with other medical conditions through round-the-clock specialist care. It is recognized by various government health schemes (CGHS, PM-JAY, ESI, ECHS) and over 150 public sector organizations, as well as international bodies like WHO and UNICEF.
