College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
The hostels are spread out into two campuses. However, since I was a day scholar, I don't know the specifics of the hostel fees. There are a few PGs and other options available outside the campus, and their costs vary depending on the facilities available. The food in the college cafeteria is below average with rarely good taste and the cost of the canteen slightly on the expensive side considering its a college canteen. A plate of fried rice costs ₹80 or more.
The infrastructure within the college is quite good. The classroom is well lit, with good ventilation and furniture. We have 2 different labs for editing and assignments. The library also has a good amount of books, right from academic books to novels, biographies, fiction and nonfiction. We also have a multimedia studio with studio lights, microphones, recorders, cameras, mixers etc. The college also has wifi facilities available for students. In fact, college infrastructure is one of the best things about college.
Entrance Exams & Admissions :
The student applying should have completed their 10+2 boards with a minimum of 50% marks with English as one of the languages. One can apply directly through the College website or visit the university office and fill out the admission request form. Then the admission department will guide through the further procedure.
Placements & Internships :
I have completed a one month unpaid internship as a Content writer in coastal digest. The college does have a placement cell and also a website to help with the placement procedures, however this is not yet systematically implemented. There are no companies visiting the campus for hiring. The college has no tie-ups with any companies for student placements and we haven't had any student being placed through campus placement cells. Since I have recently graduated I have no clear idea about the alumni network and its effectiveness.
Fees & Scholarships :
The course fees was Rs. 60,000 per year at Nitte Institute of Communication, Mangalore the year I joined. The college does offer scholarships for the students based on their percentage of marks scored in the board examination. If one gets above 90% then they are eligible for 50% of fees discount, above 80% marks- ₹20,000 discount and above 70% marks- ₹30,000. Any student that fits this category, except for international students are eligible to avail this scholarship for the entire 3 years of the course. Loans are available for this course in almost every bank.
Clubs & Associations :
There are several clubs and societies in our college like film, environment, theatre, music, literature etc. However I haven't witnessed even a single initiative by this society in my three years of college. One of the major festivals to look forward to is the Nitte International Film Festival that's held for 4 days in the Big Cinemas across 3 screens with interactions with the cast, crew and directors of the films showcased in the fest. Another is the inter College media fest 'Beacons' that is organised by the student body of the college wherein there are several media related competitions held. We also have an event that is organised by the final year event management students. Apart from that we have sports days, inter-house competitions, festivals, and other fun events that are celebrated on campus. Life in general on campus is extremely fun and memorable.
