Patliputra University (PPU) is a state-funded public university situated in the capital city of Bihar, Patna. Numerous institutions are affiliated with Patliputra University. While the university is still in its early phases, some areas, such as infrastructure and placements, require improvement.

The lack of on-campus housing, varied teacher quality, and relatively lower salary packages have all contributed to students' expectations not being met. Considering the fact that this is a new university, let's dissect all the aspects and check if the advantages can weigh in more than the disadvantages.

Diverse Courses and Reasonable Expenditure

Patliputra University offers a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and vocational programs that have various disciplines, like Humanities, Science, Education, Commerce, IT, Business Management, Arts, Engineering, and more. 

One of the notable features of the courses offered in Patliputra University is the presence of an Online Teaching Learning Cell. The cell ensures the commitment of the institution to providing modern educational practices. 

The university's cost structure strikes an appropriate balance between high-quality learning and affordability, making it accessible to students from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. This open educational approach represents Patliputra University's commitment to developing talent and fostering academic success in the region.

Moderate Faculty Members

According to the students of Patliputra University, the teaching methodology adopted by the professors was not enough for the semester and curriculum, as most of the instructors handed out notes and instructed them to transcribe or take photos without thorough explanations. The students had to depend on outside sources to excel in their studies. 

However, some of the professors have tried to decrease this gap by being fair, supportive, and willing to clarify doubts. In general, Patliputra University’s faculty is commendable. All the professors are well-qualified and knowledgeable and mostly aided in the exam preparations.

Sometimes, it has been noticed by university students that most of the teachers were deemed qualified and experienced. Still, some newer teachers needed more teaching experience and refined methodologies for instructing graduate-level students.

Additionally, there have also been observations of varying attention levels towards students based on their academic performance, with high-achievers receiving more focus, which was unjust for some students in the university.

Semester and Curriculum

The academic sessions at Patliputra University are running smoothly with the provision of regular assessments, unit tests, and mock tests for thorough semester preparation. The university has ensured to keep a dedicated instructor for every subject so that students can address their queries.

The curriculum of Patliputra University is highly industry-oriented. Examinations in the university are conducted on a semester basis, and the difficulty level of the papers generally ranges from easy to moderate. However, most of the students at Patliputra University feel that there is a need to update the curriculum as it currently seems to be outdated and behind industry standards.

The university, on the positive side, provides enough study materials, including textbooks and past exam papers, which further enhances the semester preparation and helps to tackle a diverse range of exam questions.

Mediocre Infrastructure

The infrastructure in Patliputra University is very mediocre. The candidates are least satisfied with the university’s infrastructure and the lack of sports grounds and facilities. The institution has multiple campuses in different parts of Patna, which consist of small buildings but no proper canteens, fields, greenery, or recreational spaces.

In Patliputra University, the basic amenities have been provided, such as Wi-Fi all over the campus, but with the restriction that only faculty can use it all over the campus, not students. The other facilities, such as laboratories, classrooms, and libraries, are all good.

The university does not have a big campus. The institution only has buildings and no garden or various sports grounds. On a positive note, Patliputra University has some space for a bike stand, a car stand, a canteen, and two separate dispensaries for boys and girls. The campus has a fair security system making safe for the students.

Patliputra University's classrooms have a variety of amenities. While laboratory equipment is limited, classrooms are well-equipped with facilities such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and smart boards. However, the students of the university are particularly concerned about the state of the desks and benches, as they are not in very good condition and make the learning process very difficult.

The availability of 24-hour Wi-Fi in lab classrooms, as well as air conditioning in the lab and library, are some of the benefits of Patliputra University. The library at Patliputra University is very small and offers a limited selection of books. The University has not stocked up a lot on course books and reference materials, which makes it difficult for the students, as they have to rely on buying more books.

Patliputra University's canteen ensures quality meals that meet the students' satisfaction. However, according to the students, there's a notable difference in canteen facilities between all the Patliputra University's branches. While some of the canteens lack amenities and a variety of food dishes, the other canteens provide a wide range of dishes like fast food beverages like tea and coffee, and all are served fresh.

The facilities provided in the university's canteen have become a  convenient option for the students for snacks and beverages. The canteen atmosphere at Patliputra University is vibrant and very active and socializing, which makes it a popular spot on campus.

The campus of Patliputra University lacks a proper ground for sports, and the welfare facilities are below average for the students. However, there is a small playground available for recreational activities. 

The university’s campus, on the contrary, offers facilities for indoor games like badminton and table tennis to balance out the lack of recreational spaces. Furthermore, the institution has made all the necessary provision for yoga sessions, which a trained instructor guides to promote physical fitness among students.

Average Hostel Facility

Patliputra University’s hostel facilities for its students is moderate. As a result, many students have to seek accommodation off-campus. This is a huge drawback for students, especially those who come from different states in India, and have to consider the other options available while planning for accommodation while studying at the university.

The students, fortunately, can find PGs as an alternative. There are various PGs available near the campus, especially in the New Patliputra Colony. The cost of PGs ranges from INR 5000 to INR 15000, depending on the choice of amenities and sharing.

Subpar Placements

While Patliputra University lacks a formalized placement system, the students are encouraged to seek employment opportunities independently post examinations. Patliputra University has below average placements.

Based on the experiences of the students, approximately 40-50% of students can secure on-campus placements, with the average package being 7 LPA. The top recruiting companies in Patliputra University are TCS, Wipro, and Infosys, which actively participate in the college's placement drives.

Although the placement cell is active, only a limited number of companies visit the university. The placement rates vary from batch to batch and stream to stream. For example, in one of the batches in Patliputra University with 90 students, almost 85% of students were successful in securing placements. Unfortunately, the salary packages are still lacking, and the highest offered salary package was  3 LPA, whereas the average package was 1.5 LPA.

Uneventful Campus Life

Patliputra’s campus life is not so great. However, it is also not boring. The cultural or sports events are held occasionally. The student clubs, as well as the administration, are also not proactive in arranging various activities for the students. Although, since the campus is located amid lush greenery, students do feel a bit of respite.

Patliputra University does not have any dress code or uniform. However, the students are expected to wear modest attires inside the campus. The rules inside the universities are not so strict. Although, students must have 75% attendance in a semester. Since most of the students at Patliputra University are from Bihar rather than all over the country, there is not much diversity among the students. 

Overall Impression of Patliputra University

Patliputra University is not a very good choice for education and placements. The placements are average, the infrastructure barely provides the basic amenities to the students, and the faculty members are qualified but not up to the mark.
