Periyar Maniammai University, [PMU] Thanjavur has its origin from Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women which was named after a great social reformer named E.V. Ramasamy, popularly known as Thanthai Periyar and his wife Annai Maniammaiar. It has been functioning as a Deemed to be University since August 17, 2007. It also has Periyar Technology Business Incubator which helps students develop a sound business. Two of the budding entrepreneurs won National Awards from Indian STEPs and Business Incubator Association [ISBA] 2010 and 2012.
