Punjabi University was established on 30th April 1962 under the act of Punjab Act no 35 of 1961. It is the second university in the world to be named after the language. It established the department of Distance Education in 1968. It is the second institute of the country for adapting the non-formal mode of impairing education. It is the first department to introduce a regional language as a medium of instruction and examination. At current, the department manages 41 multi-faculty programs and student enrolment is increased from Twelve thousand to fifteen thousand. It offers UG and PG programs in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management.
Criteria for PG courses in Punjabi University - Distance Education admission 2024 is to have a bachelor’s degree in any respective fields. For UG courses the eligibility is to be passed in the 12th board exam in Punjab School Education Board or any Board Examination. For Diploma courses, the eligibility is to be a graduate in any field
