The Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University has been established as an institution of national importance under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 10 of 2014) and notified on 5th March 2014. This second Central Agricultural University in India was established and named in memory of the great freedom fighter known as warrior queen of Jhansi Late Rani Lakshmi Bai who sacrificed her life at the altar of freedom. The objectives of the university are to impart education in different branches of agriculture and allied sciences, undertake research in agriculture, programs of extension education and promote linkages with national and international educational institutes. The University became functional with the joining of Dr. Arvind Kumar as the first Vice-Chancellor on May 9, 2014.
The University headquarters is at Jhansi located in the Bundelkhand region covering six districts, namely: Chhatarpur, Damoh, Datia, Panna, Sagar, and Tikamgarh of Madhya Pradesh and seven districts, namely: Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Mahoba of Uttar Pradesh. The university will establish different constituent colleges, namely: College of Agriculture, College of Horticulture & Forestry at Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, and College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, College of Fisheries in Madhya Pradesh. The B.Sc {Hons} Agriculture classes started at IGFRI Campus Jhansi, and the process has been initiated for the establishment of other constituent colleges of the University. The mission of the University is to be a center of excellence in teaching, research, and extension education in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.
The University aims to develop sustainable farming systems for improving productivity and profitability in agriculture and allied sectors and also train the farmers and extension functionaries for the effective dissemination of advanced agricultural technologies particularly in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh states of the county. The University offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree Programmes in agriculture and allied sciences. It will act as an important link in the chain for converting agriculture and allied occupation into profitable enterprises and to offer food and nutritional security. To realize the above mission, the University will establish special centers, specialized laboratories, libraries, museums, and other units for research and institution.

The college offers a wide range of infrastructures for its students' usage ensuring a pleasant educational experience for the students applying. Apart from knowledge acquiring the college also focuses on the physical and mental nourishment of the students thus making their campus life a more memorable and enriching experience. The facilities provided by the institution include a library, hostels, auditoriums, IT facilities, transport, alumni network, and many more. The college library houses a great number of books, national and international journals and magazines, subscriptions to newspapers, articles, and a wide range of materials in its e-library.
The hostel facility is provided for both boys and girls with all the required facilities like reading room, mess, indoor and outdoor courts for games and other recreational activities, etc. The college’s auditorium is the place where a number of seminars, conferences, cultural events, guest lectures, presentations, and many such events are conducted. The college has the best IT facilities where each of its laboratories and lecture halls are equipped with smart boards and Wi-Fi making the teaching-learning process more interesting. The college also provides transport facilities for its students and staff members who are residing outside the campus premises, reducing the hurdle of transportation to and from the institution. The alumni association at the college is built to maintain the bond between the graduates and the current students and among themselves too. The placement cell at RLBCAU is a dedicated establishment by the college to facilitate employment opportunities for its candidates in different Government and private sector establishments. The university organizes lectures by inviting motivating personalities from different organizations and functions as bridging between the university and the professional industry. The alumni network plays its part by helping in the improvement of the students qualitatively for enhanced performance during placement drives.
