The University of Travancore was established in the year 1937 now known as the University of Kerala, it is the sixteenth University to be set up in India and ten Colleges within the State of Travancore which was affiliated to the Madras University became the affiliated colleges of the Travancore University. Kerala University Distance Education Courses are equivalent to that of regular Courses.

The School of Distance Education started in 1976 located in the University Senate Campus, at Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram to provide quality education to the disadvantaged sections including women and senior citizens, training in softer and technical skills and promote advancement in career by encouraging diversification and updating of knowledge.

Candidates who are seeking admission for the undergraduate course should have passed the 10+2 level examination. Candidates who are seeking admission for the undergraduate course should have, bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline for admission. 

The Selection of candidates will be done on merit basis obtained by the candidate in the qualifying exam. Applications can be easily submitted easily through the online portal of SDE, Kerala university.
