Sivaji University Was Set up in the year 1962 in Kholapur the university was named after the Great Martha Warrior and founder of the Maratha empire Chhatrapati Shivaji. This university is a centre for Distance Education. The official power to make legal decisions and judgements of the University is spread over three districts viz. Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara.

Shivaji University Distance Education Admission is merit-based. The courses offered by the Directorate of Distance Education [DDE] include B.A, B.Com, M.A, M.Com, MBA and M.Sc in mathematics. The endeavour of the University is to provide a channel for higher education from far places too along with that to reduce the pressure on the conventional university.

BA	Candidates must have cleared 10+2 in any stream from a recognized board.
MA	Candidates must have cleared BA with a relevant subject from a recognized university.
B.Com	Candidates must have cleared 10+2 in Commerce stream from a recognized board.
M.Com	Candidates must have cleared B.Com from a recognized university.
