Thiagarajar College, [TC] Madurai was established by Sri. Karumuttu Thiagarajar Chettiar who was the King of Bhavnagar and Governor of Madras State. It was established in the year 1949. It is accredited by NAAC and NIRF. It provides education in the field of Arts, Science, Management, Commerce and many more.

The college aims to serve society by providing affordable quality higher education to all at all times and it also aims to provide a gender friendly academic ambiance that helps in knowledge acquisition through student-teacher interaction.mThiagarajar College admission can be done online on the official website of the college. It offers courses like BA, BBA, B.Com, B.Sc, BCA, MA, M.Com, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D. From its inception, the college remains one of the premier institutions in Madurai.

The college was started with only three undergraduate courses but now has grown in its stature with 25 UG, 15 PG and 12 M.Phil and 10 Ph.D Programmes in addition to 11 diploma and 12 Certificate courses. The college is a private and aided co-educational institution affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. It is meticulously managed by Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar Memorial Trust. The motto of the college is “Wisdom and Love embody the Divine”.

The focal point of the college is employability along with academic excellence and character development. It aims at providing quality education, fostering excellence in research and promoting academic inquiry. The Institution was upgraded as an autonomous institution in 1987. It was first accredited with Five Stars by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2001 and was re-accredited with ’A’ Grade in 2007 and again re-accredited with ‘A’ Grade in the third cycle in January 2013.
