The College Board administers the SAT exam. The SAT exam is conducted seven times a year. Students are free to take exams as many times as they wish. SAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

There are no eligibility criteria as such for the SAT exam as the conducting body has not defined fixed criteria. The SAT exam is conducted for undergraduate admissions in the colleges and universities in the USA along with Canada, Australia, etc. Students who wanted to pursue their bachelor's studies abroad must appear for the SATs and pass with a minimum score required for their desired universities.

Even though there are no definite SAT 2024 eligibility criteria, applicants are required to complete their high school education i.e. education up to class 12 before starting college education. Students are allowed to take the SAT exam when they are in high school but to be successfully admitted into the undergraduate program of their choice in any college/ university, they must their 10+2 education.

Apart from this, colleges and universities can have their individual requirements which students should check before applying.

Disabilities: The College Board has made all the facilities for the Person with Disability (PwD). Once approved by the College Board, accommodations are utilized for both SAT and SAT subject tests- one did not have to make a new request for each.

Age Limit: There is no particular age limit to apply for SAT 2024. Therefore the candidates could take the SAT exam at any age. Usually, students take the SAT exam in their junior year (class 11) or senior year (class 12) of their high school. So these students generally fall in between 16 to 18 age range.

SAT 2024 Exam Pattern

The SAT 2024 exam pattern is decided by the College Board which is the conducting authority of the exam. The SAT exam is conducted worldwide for admission into undergraduate programs in American colleges and universities. The SAT exam is made up of two parts namely SAT Reasoning Test usually referred to as SAT Generals Test and the other is the SAT Subject Test.

SAT 2024 Syllabus

All candidates must go through the SAT syllabus in order to prepare well for the SAT 2024 exam. The syllabus for SAT 2024 is decided by the conducting authority i.e., the College Board. The syllabus comprised of topics from reading, writing and language, Mathematics, and SAT essays (optional).

SAT 2024 Syllabus for Reading

The questions asked in this section are based on either short passage reading or extended passage reading. It essentially measured a candidate’s strength in English vocabulary. According to the SAT 2024 Syllabus, the time allotted to this section is 65 minutes for attempting 52 questions. Reading test questions are multiple-choice and strictly based on passages.

Informational Graphics, such as tables, graphs, and charts, accompany some passages for pictorial representation, but no Math is required in this section. This included questions like sentence completion, and understanding the test. The questions are based on three types roughly which are Ideas and Information, Rhetoric, and Synthesis of the Passages. The passages in the SAT reading section are usually taken from Science, Social Sciences, World History, US History, and Literature.

SAT 2024 Syllabus for Writing and Language

This section involved an essay and multiple-choice questions to test the candidate’s grasp of grammar and usage. Candidates had to focus on improving sentences, structure, and approach; have a sound knowledge of subject and verb agreement, noun agreement and parallelism, etc.

The grammar section involved the usage of pronouns, incorrect comparisons, conjunctions, misplaced modifiers, and punctuation as well. This section is allotted 35 minutes and consists of 44 questions. The passages range from Arguments to Non-fiction Narratives and mostly is about Careers, History, Social Studies, Humanities, and Science.

The questions are of two types, English conventions which included the grammar part and the expression of ideas which have structuring and organizing the idea, and effectiveness of the language is covered as well.

SAT 2024 Syllabus for Mathematics

This section include questions on Arithmetic Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, and Probability. Besides, the syllabus consisted of Mean, Median, and Mode, Ratios, Direct and Indirect Variation. The candidate can also expect to be asked questions on Probability, Combination, and Permutation and Patterns and Sequences. As per the SAT 2024 test pattern, test takers are given 80 minutes to solve 58 questions.

The Math section is broadly divided into two segments: Math Test with calculator and Math Test without a calculator. Math with a calculator had 30 multiple-choice questions and Math without a calculator have 15 multiple-choice questions. Students are provided a sheet that have the important formulae and other references at the beginning of the SAT 2024 exam.

SAT 2024 Syllabus for Essay (Optional)

The essay is given at the end of the SAT, mostly postsecondary institutions determine whether they required the Essay for admission. It evaluates the reading, analysis, and writing skills of the test takers as the need to produce a written analysis of a provided source text. The time given to complete the task is 50 minutes.

The essay scores are reported separately. The SAT essay is given score in the range of 2 to 8. As per the syllabus of SAT 2024, one must read a passage, explain how the author built an argument to persuade an audience, and finally support their explanation with evidence from the passage.

Candidates are required to pay an additional fee at the time of the SAT 2024 registration if they want to attend the essay section.

SAT 2024 Exam Day Guidelines

There are many important instructions set by the conducting body that must be followed by all the applicants without fail. These guidelines include the following.

  • The applicant must present acceptable photo identification for admission to the test center. They are responsible for understanding and following the SAT ID requirements.
  • The ID proof must be a valid (unexpired) photo ID that is government-issued or issued by the school that they are attending at the time. School IDs from the prior school year are valid through December of the current calendar year.
  • The documents must be an original, physical document (not photocopied or electronic) and must bear the full, legal name exactly as it appeared on the applicant's admission ticket, including the order of the names.
  • Allowing someone to impersonate the candidate to take a College Board test, or engaging in impersonation to take a test for someone else, is strictly prohibited.
  • Sharing of test questions or answers is prohibited at any time. The applicants are advised to never give questions or answers to anyone or discuss them by any means (e.g., email, text message, exchange via the internet, or any other form of communication). There is never any point in time at which they are allowed to discuss exam content unless it is released as part of a College Board service (such as the Question-and-Answer Service). If the applicant's essay did not reflect their original and individual work, their entire test score is cancelled.
  • The use of phones and certain other electronic devices is prohibited in SAT centers. The applicants are responsible for understanding and following the phone and electronic devices policy. The applicant could not consult textbooks, other people, electronic devices, or any other resources during the test or breaks.
  • Test materials are secured before, during, and after the test. The applicants are prohibited from accessing secured test materials at any time before, during, or after the test. They are also prohibited from reading test materials without completing an answer sheet. If they left their answer sheet blank, they are subject to dismissal.

If the applicant fail to comply with these policies, they are dismissed from the test center, and their scores are withheld or cancelled. If they are dismissed from the test center before completing the test because of failure to comply with these policies, the test fees is not refunded. Legal action are taken against test-takers who violate applicable laws.

Things to Carry on the Exam Day

The applicants must carry certain documents and articles compulsorily. These include the following.

  • Admission Ticket

  • An Approved Calculator

  • Extra batteries and backup equipment. The applicants must ask for permission to access them. They cannot be on their desk during the test.

Things Not to Carry on the Exam Day

The applicants are refrained from carrying the following for the exam.

  • Any devices, including digital watches, that could be used to record, transmit, receive, or playback audio, photographic, text, or video content (except for CD players used for Language with Listening subject tests only).
  • Audio players/recorders, tablets, laptops, notebooks, Google glass, or any other personal computing devices.
  • iPods or other MP3 players
  • iPads or other tablet devices
  • Laptops, notebooks, PDAs or any other personal computing devices
  • Any texting device
  • Cameras or any other photographic equipment
  • Separate timers of any type
  • Protractors, compasses, rulers

SAT 2024 Results

SAT Subject Test: Each SAT subject test and each component of the SAT (Reasoning) Test is scored on a 200 - 800 point scale.

Overall SAT Score: The overall SAT (Reasoning) test scores are evaluated as a sum of the two-part scores on a 400 - 1600 scale.

SAT Essay: Three scores are provided on a 2-8 point scale.

Percentile Ranking: Percentile rank compared the scores among candidates who took the test. For example, a candidate’s score in Biology Test was 500. If the percentile rank for 500 was 47, then it implied that the candidate did better than 47% of the rest of the students who appeared for the test.

Admission: After the scores is released, the candidates can send the SAT 2024 score reports to their respective colleges before or after test day for admission.
