About SSC Stenographer Exam

The SSC Stenographer Exam is held each year by the Staff Selection Commission to select candidates for Stenographer Grade C and D positions. Staff Selection Commission will conduct a computer-based test and a skill test as part of the selection process.

SSC Stenographer Application Fee
- The application fee is INR 100, and Women and Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with disabilities (PwD), and ex-servicemen (ESM) candidates are exempted from fee payment.
- Candidates will be given time to modify and correct their applications. For making corrections and resubmitting modified/corrected applications for the first time, the Commission imposes uniform correction fees of INR 200.

SSC Stenographer 2024 Eligibility Criteria
SSC Stenographer eligibility criteria are structured by the Staff Selection Commission. Candidates must make sure to fulfil all the eligibility criteria for SSC Stenographer 2024 before proceeding to the application form.

Nationality
An aspiring candidate must be either:
- A Citizen of India
- A Citizen of Bhutan
- A Subject of Nepal
- A Tibetan Refugee, who came to India on or before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement
- An Indian-origin person who had migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, or the East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia, intending to settle permanently in India.
The candidates other than the candidates belonging to the category of citizens of India must be able to produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, to be able to seek employment in SSC Stenographer posts under Grade C & D.

Computer Based Test (CBT)
The first stage of the SSC Stenographer exam Grade C & D is a computer-based test (CBT) conducted in online mode. All the candidates who have successfully registered themselves through the SSC Stenographer registration process will be able to appear for this online exam.
Skill Test
The next stage of the SSC Stenographer 2024 Exam Grade C & D is the Skill Test, conducted to assess the typing skills of the candidates. Only those candidates who have passed the first stage, i.e. the CBT round, and have been shortlisted, will be able to appear for the Skill Test.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2024
The marking pattern for the Computer Based Test has been changed. The conducting authority has announced a change of negative marking in the SSC Stenographer exam for Groups C and D. According to the new rule, every wrong answer by the candidate would cause a deduction of 0.25 marks.
Candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in either English or Hindi (as specified in the online Application Form) at a speed of 100 words per minute (wpm) for Stenographer Grade C and 80 wpm for Stenographer Grade D in the Skill Test. The information will have to be typed into a computer.
SSC Stenographer Skill Test Important Points
Some of the important points related to the SSC Stenographer 2024 Skill Test are given below:
- The printout of the typed text will not be taken after the Stenography Skill Test(Transcription)
- Candidates for English Transcription (Typing) are advised to choose English (US) as their Keyboard Layout option
- Candidates for Hindi Transcription Typing) are advised to choose Hindi script /Hindi Kiutidev/ Hindl Remington CBI / Hindi Remington GAIL as their Keyboard Layout option VH Candidates who will bring their BRAILLE Typewriter will be allotted an isolated seat to avoid any disturbance to other candidates
- The Commission will provide the Computer Keyboard and shorthand notebook for the test
- No candidate will be allowed to bring his/her keyboard
- Candidates will bring their pen/pencil/sharpener/eraser for the test
- Compensatory time to eligible candidates will only be permissible during transcription (Typing)
- There will be no compensatory time during the shorthand dictation

Marking Scheme for CBT
The general marking scheme for the online Computer-based Test is as follows: Each correct answer will fetch 1 mark. SSC Stenographer negative marking scheme of CBT has changed. According to the new rule, each incorrect answer will result in the deduction of 0.25 marks. Total marks obtained by a candidate are calculated after deducting the penalty for wrong answers from the total number of correct answers.

Stage II: Skill Test
The next stage of the SSC Stenographer 2024 Exam Grade C & D is the Skill Test, conducted to assess the typing skills of the candidates. Only those candidates who have passed the first stage, i.e. the CBT round, and have been shortlisted, will be able to appear for the Skill Test.
The candidates will be asked to transcribe or type a dictation of 10 minutes in English or Hindi, at a minimum speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for the post of Stenographer under Grade C, and at 80 w.p.m. for the post under Grade D. SSC Stenographer Exam Syllabus
The first stage of the SSC Stenographer Exam for the posts under Grades C & D is the Computer-based Test (CBT). It is conducted in the online mode. The candidates need to be well aware of the Syllabus and Exam Pattern of the SSC Stenographer 2024 Exam, to plan and prepare for it efficiently.

This section will test the reasoning ability and the decision-making capability of a candidate. It contains a total of 50 questions for 50 marks, from the following topics: analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, etc.
General Awareness
This section is designed to test the candidates’ general awareness and knowledge regarding the environment around them, and its application in society. It contains a total of 50 questions for 50 marks, from topics related to India and its neighbouring countries, especially Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including the Indian Constitution, Scientific Research, etc.
English Language and Comprehension
This section will contain a total of 100 questions for 100 marks. To assess a candidate’s proficiency in the English Language, questions will be asked on vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and their correct usage, etc. This section also tests the writing ability of the candidates.
