TOEFL eligibility criteria in 2023, candidates who plan to take the TOEFL exam will be relieved to find that there are no TOEFL eligibility requirements set upon by the ETS, the organisation that administers the exam. The majority of exam takers are candidates who have completed high school or equivalent.

Since this ETS TOEFL is an English language competency test, students should always check the prerequisites of the college or university to which they are applying. This exam is required of all students whose first language is not English. Universities in major English-speaking countries such as the United States and Canada demand students to demonstrate their language skills in order to be admitted. Professionals, in addition to students, take the TOEFL exam because it is a requirement for obtaining a visa. Furthermore, the ETS, the organisation that oversees the TOEFL exam, has not imposed any age restrictions.

But there are a few necessary things that candidates should consider before applying for TOEFL. These are generally implied criteria.

Eligibility for TOEFL 2023 Exam

Even though TOEFL 2021 exam eligibility is not set by ETS, these are generally implied eligibility for TOEFL.

  • Education: Fundamentally, the applicants are expected to have at least an undergraduate degree. Under generally understood TOEFL exam eligibility prospective graduates can apply as TOEFL scores have the validity of 5 years.
  • Age Limit: This implies the applicant has to be at least 18 years old. Once an applicant takes up the exam and gets the TOEFL 2021 scores, he is expected to apply for universities or business schools on their own. Candidates who are younger than 15 years of age should be accompanied by their parents to fulfil the formalities at the test centre.
  • This general understanding of TOEFL exam eligibility requires the aspirant to have a qualification, and other norms set by the desired educational institution. Different institutions may have different eligibility criteria, but TOEFL has no specific criteria of selection.
  • So aspirants should be thorough with the selection process of universities or business schools beforehand and make sure that they are eligible for the same.
  • Score Recipients: Applicant can choose which universities or fellowship sponsors he/she wants to receive scores. As part of the test fee, one can designate up to four score recipients.
  • More Score Recipients: If the applicant prefers to send score reports later or wants to send score reports to more than four recipients, then they can send additional score reports for an additional fee.
