UPSC NDA 1 2025 exam was conducted successfully on Apr 13, 2025. Applicants who took the exam can now check the draft answer keys for Mathematics and GK subjects. About UPSC NDA Exam

NDA (National Defense Academy) examination is a national-level test conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) twice a year to fill in the vacancies available in various roles. This exam acts as a gateway for recruiting candidates in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This national-level exam is conducted twice a year in more than 41 cities across India.

The recruitment process consists of two stages. The first stage of NDA 2025 is the written test which will be conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based). The candidates who qualify in the written test will be eligible to attend the next stage which is the personal interview. NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. Cadets who are accepted and complete the program are sent to their respective training academies for one year of training before being granted commission.

Army cadets go to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) at Dehradun, Air Force cadets to the Air Force Academy (AFA) at Dundigal, Hyderabad, and Naval cadets to the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala, Kerala.

Candidates must ensure to check the NDA 2 2025 eligibility before filling up the application form. The NDA eligibility consists of Nationality, Age Limit, Gender, Minimum Qualifications, and Physical Standards

UPSC NDA Nationality

The nationality criteria for the UPSC NDA exam 2025 are mentioned below.

  • Citizens of India
  • Subject of Bhutan
  • Subject of Nepal
  • Tibetan refugees who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement in India.
  • Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanent settlement.

UPSC NDA Age Limit

The age limit criteria for UPSC NDA are as follows.

  • Only unmarried males with a date of birth not later than Jul 1, 2007, are eligible for the NDA exam.
  • Candidates born between Jan 2, 2005, and Jan 1, 2008, are eligible for NDA II 2025 exam.
  • Female candidates and married candidates are not eligible to apply for the examination.

UPSC NDA Educational Qualification

The candidates applying for UPSC NDA should have the minimum qualification.

  • For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: Passed class 12 examination conducted by a state education board or university.
  • For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at Indian Naval Academy: Passed class 12 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a state education board or university.

Candidates who are appearing in class 12 or equivalent examinations can also apply for the exam.

UPSC NDA Physical Standards

Physical standards for the candidates of UPSC NDA are as follows.

  • Candidates seeking admission to the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy examinations must be physically fit as per the physical standards set by the conducting authority.
  • Candidates who have resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of the Armed Forces are not eligible to apply for the exam.

UPSC NDA 2025 Application Form

The UPSC NDA application form portal for the Phase 2 exam will be open from May 28, 2025, with the release of the notification PDF. Interested candidates must submit the UPSC NDA 2025 application form by the given last date. Candidates who furnish correct and complete details will be accepted to appear for the written examination.

As per the notice, such candidates' applications will be rejected who do not make the payment of fees. They are instructed to appeal against the rejection within 10 days, along with the documentary evidence.

UPSC NDA Application Fee

Candidates must apply for the exam through the online method only. Candidates can pay an application fee either online or offline. An application fee of INR 100 can either be deposited as cash in any branch of the SBI or it can be paid by using the net banking facility of SBI or by using a Debit Card/Credit Card.

Candidates who select the 'Pay by Cash' mode should take a printout of the system-generated pay-in-slip and deposit the fee at the counter of the SBI Branch on the next working day.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/JCOs/NCOs/ORs are exempted from paying the application fee. Candidates are required to upload a recent photograph and signature as per the required format. A page with the candidate's registration number will be generated. Candidates must take a printout of this page.

UPSC NDA Exam Pattern

The UPSC NDA Exam Pattern 2025 has been set by the Union Public Service Commission, based on which the NDA 2025 exam will be conducted. NDA 2025 exam will be conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based test). There will be a negative marking for every wrong answer.

Candidates who score qualifying marks in NDA 2025 written exam will be selected for the next phase, which is the SSB interview. In the interview, the candidates will be tested for intelligence and personality.

UPSC NDA Written Exam Pattern

NDA 2 2025 exam has two parts, Mathematics and General Aptitude and they are both conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based). A total of 120 questions multiple-choice-based objective questions will be asked in the Mathematics section and a total of 150 multiple-choice-based objective-type questions will be asked in the General Ability section.

Both exams are being conducted for a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. Negative marking is practiced in the evaluation scheme.

UPSC NDA Interview

UPSC will announce NDA 2025 result with names. The qualified candidates will be called for the interview process. It includes two stages- the Psychological Aptitude Test and the Intelligence Test. Candidates qualifying for the stage one interview process will be considered for the stage 2 process.

UPSC NDA 2025 Selection Process

The selection process for NDA 2025 is a two-step procedure that consists of a written exam and an interview. The written test is qualifying in nature. Candidates need to score higher than the minimum qualifying marks to be eligible to attend the next round, which is the interview. The interview has two stages, namely the Psychological Aptitude Test and the Intelligence Test.

Candidates will go through stage one on the first day of reporting at the selection centres. Candidates qualifying the Stage I will go through Stage II. The final mark list of Candidates qualifying for stage II will be released after the successful conduct of the interview. Those candidates need to submit the original class 10 pass certificate and class 12 pass certificate, along with one photocopy.

To be selected for the Army/Navy/Naval Academy and Air Force, candidates will have to secure the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as fixed by the Conducting Authority and Officer Potentiality Test as fixed bythe  Service Selection Board.
