Employment Statistics for Indian Women Consistently Rising: Education Minister
According to a report, India's employment workforce has shown a rise from 46.2% to 50.3%. Furthermore, the percentage of women employable has also risen from 47.2% to 52.8%.
According to the Education Minister of India, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, India's employable workforce has risen, with a consistent rise in women's employment. He added that various schemes and consistent encouragement for women's employment brought a paradigm shift in India's labour market.
Per Wheebox India Skills Report 2023, the graph of India's employability has increased compared to the last year. As per the report, 50.3% were found employable compared to 46.2% last year. The Wheebox India Skills Report 2023 evaluated 3.75 lakh fresh graduates based on the Wheebox National Employability Test (WNET), in which more than 150 corporations participated from around 15 different industries.
According to the report, B.Com, MBA, and B.Tech graduates were the most employed compared to the other courses graduates. Conversely, graduates from polytechtechnic courses and MCA courses were found to be the least employable. Furthermore, the report shows that 89% of graduates sought internships in their domain.
Among the Indian states, graduates from Mumbai have the highest employable percentage, followed by Lucknow and Mangalore. The report for 2022 suggests that the sectors that have hired the most number of graduates are from the pharmaceutical, e-commerce, and IT domains. Per the survey, these industries expect to hire 20% more new employees, in 2023 than they did in 2022. Industries, including automotive, engineering, and internet business, would experience the highest hiring levels in 2023.

Women More Employable than Men
Notably, 52.8% of the workforce comprises employable women, compared to 47.2% of men. In terms of employable women, Rajasthan leads with 53.5%, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 46.5%. "Over a decade, women's employability has steadily increased, which is a promising indication of significant developments in India's evolving labour market.
